How many of you have built ships that had a seam right down the length of a bulkhead ,horizontally?REVELL was the greatest offender this way.Now this is old hat stuff , BUT , I feel a reminder sometimes will be read by a novice and the problem will be solved for them . Isn,t that what makes a hobby live ? Now for those pesky bulkheads . When I was a little shaver (no , I was to young to shave ) I built many of REVELLS offerings .From civilian ships (The Tanker, The Freighter and many other ships naval and otherwise .) I got to where after about twenty or thirty I had to solve this. The first thing I did was take ELMERS and flow it on the seams until the bulkhead was flat .That was okay , but , There were a lot of toothpicks sticking out of the portholes , and , sometimes this left ridges around the ports . Well , a friend who did armor showed me a way to fix it . He had me draw patterns on plastic sheet of the outer and inner perimeter of all the deckhouses and make sure to include the stairwell cutouts . Then He had me cut the decks off the structures BEFORE glueing them together and put filler (in this case , it was real car glazing putty put on in very thin layers.) on the pieces that made up the structures .He had me also draw the inside lines for cutting the deck overhangs off ! When the things were dry , after maybe another coat and sanding on a flat surface . I put the new decks in place .Hey , no more groove and the portholes looked good too . This is a method I have never modified over the years . It still works . Once in a while , I do have to double check to see if the ship,s upper structure has what some call AZTEC temple stairs .Those always have to go ! That,s another reminder for much later .
