DON ,you my friend are a jewel .I am with you 100% the reason for the post was to let folks know that we would probably have it AMERICAN . BUT you haveto do business with them for them to build enough following to putout a product .TOMS is a case in point . They finally  came out with 1/96 diamond plate (somewhat expensive )( I hope it sells ) with urging from builders in that scale . This is what I was thinking about when I wrote this .  You take care and catchya on the next post        tankerbuilder .

Personally, i would like to buy British. But i know with models, as with many things, that just isn't going to happen in a lot of cases. As Don says, when you are dealing with small concerns which deal in small quantities, its just not possible. If you just bought from the US, and i just bought from the UK, it wouldn't be long before either of us couldn't buy from anywhere. If theres only one company makeing this stuff, there has to be a reason for it. And that will be that the demand just isn't high enough to justify mulitple companies producing the same items.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Well, I certainly prefer to buy American, if for no other reasons than pragmatic things like shipping costs, worrying about exchange rates, etc.  If multiple sources exist for a ship, I'll buy Tom's- my favorite, or else GMM.

However, these are all small concerns, with limited funds for investment for product development, so I do not feel upset when only one source offers a PE set for a specific ship. In that case I buy from whoever produces it.  Ideally, I would like to see it from Tom's or GMM, but I know it is impractical to assume they will always invest in the development for the set I need.

I am writing this because of an E-MAIL conversation I had with LOREN PERRY who ,as we all know is the founder and go to guy at GOLD MEDAL MODELS . Well I had asked LOREN about P.E. for the " DREADNOUGHT " type ships from BRITAIN and elswhere . He does have a set for the RUSSIAN ships . He informed me the demand for the HOOD and REPULSE sets had been so poor he has to think about it . I know there are shipmodelers out there that use P.E. on their BRITISH ship models .You need to support our companies here in the states FIRST !! . WHITE ENSIGN is the ONLY firm offering sets for the ships like the H.M.S. WARSPITE . I could NOT find a listing for the ship type at TOM,S MODELWORKS either (unless I didn,t look hard enough .) This brings up the point of this post .We all want good products and expect the best when we put up our hard to come by cash . We cannot expect industries that are basically one to three or four folks to give us what we want , with the quality we expect, if we send our money overseas . I don,t have a problem with JOHN HAYNES or WHITE ENSIGN . I just think we should promote the folks here at home first or one day we may find them gone . That,s when we all lose ! Well , I,ve had my say so if I made any of  you angry , I apologise in advance , but that,s the way I feel about this dilemna . I HAVE to buy overseas because we are not backing and buying enough from our companies here .Give them the business and they will respond with great products . and NO V.A.T . to worry about !! Thanks for reading this old mans harangue .          tankerbuilder
