if they have rules follow them,,  but if i have a good model i will bring it to different shows,  or every couple of years i will bring them out, not so much for the trophys,,,,  but for different people to see them,,, and swap ideas with them,,,  isint that why we build,,,

In many contests, there is a category or table of display- only, which can fulfil letting more folks see the models without entering them in competition.

Okay, there are three levels of contest in the world of IPMS: local, regional and national. The national rules are set by the IPMS National Contest Committee and posted here. These may change slightly year to year, but are very slow to see dramatic change.

Regional events take the lead from the National event but are managed by a local club. There may or may not be the same rules. The website of the particular event has (or should have-shame on them if they don't)  eligibility rules. Therefore, it may be possible to enter a winner from a different regional or even the national event.

Local contests are completely under the control of the sponsoring club. They put up the money and take the risks, so they set the rules. In the shows I attend in New England, only one disallows regional or national winners. All allow winners from previous non-regional shows and all disallow previous winners from the show in question. One has a masters table for previous first palce winners at tehir show (gilding the lily, if you ask me, but I don't run that show.)

If a club allows you to compete with a previous winner, you need feel no compunction about  competing that model.

Since there are no entry criteria, such as having had to win a local to enter a regional or having placed at a regional to enter the national, and most  IPMS events are judged model to model (best, next best and next best after that) on the table that day, each event is unique unto itself. Your receiving an award is as much based on who shows up with what as it is on your modeleing skills.

At AMPS, your milage may vary, so check their site.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Personally, I bring a model to local club show and tell once, then different contests for a year.  I do not submit the same model to the same show more than once.  I will also occasionally bring it to local club when show and tell or a challenge "contest" is an appropriate special subject, even if I show & told it when it was just finished.

you'll probably get as many different answers as you will folks who respond.

Probably not if the contest is IPMS or AMPS...there are very clear rules about this...I believe if a model places it can't be entered at the same level of event....In other words, if you place 1st at an IPMS Regional event, you cannot enter it again at an IPMS Regional---it must be showed at the IPMS Nats...

Yes there are rules about entering kits more than once. But I am also with Slusher, that once I have entered a kit and it has placed, I put it in the nice glass display case.

It varies by club.  You should check the club's rules before a contest.

A lot of them say that if a given entry takes 1st, 2nd or 3rd then it can't be entered again for competition at that contest again.  You can still put it in the "Display Only" area if they have one.

Personally, if my entry places (1st, 2nd or 3rd) or after it's been to all the contests I plan to take it to in a year I retire it.  It goes into my motor pool on top of my desk or goes "downrange" and becomes practice target new weathering or painting techniques.  That's just me though.

you'll probably get as many different answers as you will folks who respond.

Since I'm still relatively new at this, maybe someone can answer.

If you take a model to a regional show, and it places, do you take it to another show 6 months later?

Or is it proper etiquette to retire it.

I took a bronze in Orlando.  6 months later is the Jax meet.  Should I retire this (I am bringing new models also) or is it OK to enter it again?

Curious about viewpoints.
