Downunder in Australia (or at least Tasmania) a bottle of Tamiya or Gunze comes to $4-$4.50 depending on where I shop.

Spruce a "tip shop" is not for proffit shop where people taking stuff to the garbage dump/tip can drop off stuff that can be resold (they are commonish across most of the bigger cities in australia), some of the stuff sold is also reclaimed from the dump itself, they only take stuff of . Great place to pick up cheap building materials, still usable but not to of the line computer parts, books, collectables, etc etc. Basically junk that people are clearing out that isnt quite rubbish.

I think you forgot to divide. (3785 / 23) x 3.00 =  $493.70 per gallon or $3.86 per ounce. I can order it online for $2.20 but have to add shipping of course. Yes, it's still expensive stuff but I can do quite a bit of painting with a 23ml bottle of Tamiya. A LHS sells it for $3.10 and both LHSs sell MM enamel for $3.89 per 17ml bottle. The one shop that stocks Floquil and Polly Scale charge over $5 for the large bottles. I think they're $5.39. Not sure what size they are.

What is Tamiya? Around $3 a bottle? That comes to about $9 an ounce!
How much is that per gallon?

Each bottle of the Tamiya Acrylic Paint Series contains 23ml of paint.
Call 165 bottles per 1 US gallon. ~$500 !!!

Needed a better storage solution for my humbrol/revel paint tins so I went round a couple of the local "tip" shops. Got some nice little shelves for cheap but also picked up a small box tamiya and gunze paints for $5. In all nearly a dozen new or near new bottles mostley of colours I didnt have plus another dozen in various stages of use (at least 1/2 full) plus some tamiya glue and tamiya and humbrol gloss coats.

Great day resource shopping. Only bummer was I then had to resort all my bottles to cope with the influx of new colours (big tax there).

Sounds like a very fortunate purchase.

Sorry, but I am unfamiliar with the term:  "tip" shop.

Is that your equivalent to a re-sale shop in the USA?

..and, yes, I agree that model paint is very expensive.
