MODELS -A CURSE or a CURE
Posted by tankerbuilder on Friday, February 17, 2012 7:26 AM

I have been thinking ( I know , that,s dangerous for an old man!). Many times I have looked at my stash and my bench and wished I had never seen a model of any kind!! Then, there,s the flip side of that and I see a model completed and am so thankful I have these skills and can still produce things in miniature even if it is molded in plastic and I have just assembled it, fixed the flaws, and so on.By the way, are my posts easier to read now?I have stopped spacing them the way I did. You see , when I post I cannot see the punctuation marks on the screen. That,s why I spaced things the way I did. Even with glasses, the things are almost invisible.I do know this.We as a forum of modelers, do sometimes almost cross the line here. Also,as modelers we are here and reach out to those who are in personal pain, and also newbies who want to know where to start. That is ,I think ,the mark of a heck of a great bunch of people! Shoot, even when I get on my soap-box you all are there. The people who make this possible are to be commended too. So KUDOS to the FSM folks who moniter and care for the site.We can, and I do mean this,Come here and tell of our victories, defeats and what we need to do to change that.We have in miniature a fully staffed clinic of real world model doctors. That,s heartwarming to me at least. So with that said, fate has decreed I won,t have any entries in the ALAMO SQUADRON / I.P.M.S. show and contest,Cash is tight !I will go though, as I did promise my L.H.S. owner (GARY EMERY) that I would be there and help at his booth. I try and keep promises I make.I do hope you all take care and I,ll let you know what I saw .Still haven,t mastered the photo thing, BUT, SERIOUSLY ,I am trying .So far I got transfers of pictures to PHOTOBUCKET. Now i still have to hit the right key to get them here. Please be patient with me.I,ll catchya you all, after the show.          tankerbuilder

Just helping out with the paragraphs, and putting in the apostrophies where you had commas in the contractions.

Posting pics... That "Photobucket thing" isn't hard. Helps also to have TWO browser windows open. Click on your "Internet" icon that take you to your home page, then do it again. You go to FSM on one, Photobucket on the other.

Forget all that stuff about "IMG Code" and HTML code"

Open the photo you want to post.  Just right-click on the photo you want to post (NOT the thumbnail photo). Then left-click on "properties". Another box will open up.

Highlight the URL by holding down the left button and moving your cursor over the URL.   Then Copy the URL Address by right-clicking on it and [icking "Copy".

Open a "Reply " window in FSM..  Then click on the media icon, the little film-strip icon  above the reply window...

Paste that URL into the "Insert Media" box that opens when you click on it . (The one two spaces left of the  the "Smiley Face") ...

Click "Insert Media", and you're done.   Make sure you've clicked on the reply window where you want the picture, BTW...  It will go wherever you have the "blinking line" cursor in the reply.

Hans, does that method keep the pics at their normal size, or downsize 'em like P-bucket does? The reason I ask is because when I take pics of my work, the camera setting is at the highest resolution possible.

Holey god Hans, that seems like such a long way of doing a simple thing to post pics.

I have 2 tabs  open within one window, for the reason you do, one tab for fsm, the other tab for photobucket.

Once I'm in to the album I want, just put the cursor over the pic I want, the options pop up for that, click on the IMG code and it'll say "copied".

Go back to the fsm tab and right click "paste" it into the reply field/window, click on "post"......done!

Hi Tankbuilder why don't you increase the font size?  I don't know what OS you're running but if it's a Windows you just go to display properties. You can adjust the font size. In your web browser you can simply hold down ctrl and move your mouse wheel up and down. If you don't have a wheel on your mouse use ctrl and the + and - buttons untill the size is easy for you to read. Hope this helps.Smile

It takes longer to read than to do...  Photobucket acts up just often enough for me not ever bother with their codes... Half the time it puts a link into the reply window rather than a photo.. Doing it the way I do it is only a couple extra mouse-clicks, and it always works...

I have 2 tabs  open within one window, for the reason you do, one tab for fsm, the other tab for photobucket.

I don't have "tabs"...  That's that new-fangled Windows Vista, or so I heard... Not an option with Windows 98 or XP... (Yeah, I still use 3 1/2 inch floppy-discs too) Goes with my LPs, turntable and 8-tracks..

It keeps them the same as whatever size they're stored at on PB, since they're actually a link to PB...  They open up a new browser window at PB when you click on the bottom of the photo in the post.

How do you not have tabs?! I'm running windows XP with internet explorer 9. The Tabs and windows have to do with what browser you have. I havent see an any internet browser that dont have tabs.

Try this, right click a link, it should say "open in new new window" and "open in new tab", if it says that, do it and see what happens, should open a new tab in the same window.

My rig's so old that during the winter, I use Storm Windows..

How do you not have tabs?! I'm running windows XP with internet explorer 9. The Tabs and windows have to do with what browser you have. I havent see an any internet browser that dont have tabs.

Come to my house and I'll show ya one...

Try this, right click a link, it should say "open in new new window" and "open in new tab", if it says that, do it and see what happens, should open a new tab in the same window.

Nope... "Open" or "Open in New Window"...

Here's a screenshot of my browser..

Doesn't matter anyway... It's just as easy to open two browser windows...  Generally, I have three or four open...

I use IE 7 and get all the "this site no longer supports your browser, Please upgradr to XXXX" crap too, but it still works anyway...   Meanwhile, I'll happily remain entrenched in the 20th Century...  I'm over 50 and new, 21st Century stuff doesn't interest me all that much..

Hans it doesn't matter what OS you are using or how old your hardware is stop using that terrible browser that is IE7 and go and download Firefox. The best browser period. It has tabbed browsing so you can easily see what webpages are open without bogging your computer down with multiple windows, and a cool bookmarks bar so all your bookmarks are more accessible. Using your age as an excuse and 21st century stuff is lame. Besides your already using 21st century, IE7 was released in 2006. Wink

Just download Firefox, it's small, fast, stable and easy.

Edit: Just realized IE7 supports tabbed browsing. It was the IE that came stock with Vista.
