Are you in a model club? Do you have a club shirt?
Posted by dirkpitt77 on Friday, February 17, 2012 3:53 PM

I'm looking into designing some t-shirts for our club, and was just wondering who else has done this?  Just looking for advice, or recommendation on a particular company.  If I can get a good deal, will probably go with one of the internet based custom t-shirt outfits like Zazzle or CafePress.    Thoughts?  Advice?

T-shirts are inexpensive but not everyone wears a T-shirt as an outer garment. Also if you are running a show or going to a higher level show, T-shirts don't often represent your organization in the best light. Some guys walking around in well worn T-shirts don't look good.

Golf/Polo collared short sleeve shirts with a small emblem on the chest are nice. Normally they are embroidered and cost more money. On the plus side, a modest color with a pair of khakis and you have a casual, but professional look.

I've got a light blue faded demin long sleeve shirt with the logo over the pocket that looks pretty good. I'm not a member of that organization any longer so I don't wear it any more.

Just suggestions; I've got the white T-shirt, olive golf shirt and blue demin shirt that I never wear any more, so plan your costs accordinly.

My model club started with T-shirts, but our last buy had the logo and member's first name.  It helps at meetings, especially for newbee's like me.

But here's the kicker.  The shirts are dayglo yellow.  Eye-damaging yellow.  And that works out great at competitions when you can look around and find your club members.

We never did it in the model club.We did do it in the carving club.It was a simple logo with a carving knife and an bandage .The name we came up with was the " EASY BLEEDERS ' The shirts were well done in bright red with white logo, and I still get asked what are we? Most think weare a club of hemophiliacs! The best way and the classiest would be a POLO style shirt with the club name and then the members name on the area above the pocket if it has one, and in the same area if it doesn,t have a pocket .Or you could have the club name on the back with some kind of logo. The C.A.M.S. logo was a little VIKING with model parts and an X-ACTO knife in his arms. So think hard and good luck.          tankerbuilder

If feasible, can I suggest that you get the shirts made locally to yourself if you can find a comparable deal to what is offered online?   Printing shops can do all sorts of things if you ask, and you'd probably be able to paw the samples to find the best weight shirt for your wallet.   However... they might also charge more per shirt than an online place due to the smallish order...  never hurts to inquire.   Unless I know exactly what I'm buying online, with things like this I prefer to shop locally.

Our club has light blue polo shirts with no pocket. The club name is embroidered where the pocket would be but no names. We've been asked where we are from and what we build so the shirts are serving their purpose.

Yes in a newly formed club.

No we are not to the point of having club jerseys.

If were to I would like 'shop or garage' style shirts. Not the back yard sleeveless kind associated with rednecks but the collared ones with pockets that are usually gray and black.

No and Yes. This photo dates back to 1996 when I was (our) club president. I don't recall the costs of the shirts, they may have been purchased prior to my 'term' or I may have delegated the task out but polo/golf shirts are far more presentable than t-shirts. I still have the shirt in a closet but have not worn it in years no longer being a member. Club emblem above the pocket is all you really need.

No laughing... this was taken a long time ago... the gut and the Fu Man Chu are long ago too.

 HTH

Don't lie Kevin. That photo was from Kareoke night. We can already hear you singing, "You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips..."

If your club is an IPMS Chapter why not support IPMS by purchasing one of their logo'd shirts and add your own club logo to the shirt on the opposite side? Either with a patch or have a logo embroidery company do it for you.

...Now there's a vision that even I don't need.

Ooo...Gerald, great idea.  We are indeed an IPMS chapter.
