More pics now that I'm home and have the DSLR shots uploaded.
Another treat for Hans...I picked up this thing for a whole $2!
Overall it was a great show...lots of awesome entries, some nice additions to the stash...my Achilles took 3rd in open-top armor, and my just-completed Razorback won 1st in 1/48 Allied single-engine props!
Only regret...seeing a 1/32 Hasegawa P-47M for $50 and walking on to think about it. Came back just as someone else was snagging it...
Uber Sweet!
Congrats!!!
Do you know how the privateer was made up? Kit bash?

I learned long ago....do NOT hesitate! If you think you might want it, buy it NOW or somebody else will beat you every tiime!!!
Congrats on the well diserved win!
Dont feel bad, you are not the only one who has done this exact same thing. I did it at the last show I was at, it was a hasegawa P-38 in 48th. Came back in time to see the guy who bought pick it up just before I could get in there.
DoogsATX 1/48 PB4Y-2 on the contest table at ModelFiesta in SATX
Yeah.. Rub it in Doogs...
It the Monogram Liberator with the Koster Privateer vac-conversion... Love the model, but the conversion kit's priced way outta reach... I bought one about 17 years ago for 50.00, but never got around to building the conversion, and lost it in one of many moves during that time-period.. Now the conversion set's nowhere near that price these days, if one can be found... There's a mixed-media kit (resin, vac, and white metal parts) that runs around 200.00 as well, but we all know that'll never happen either... Likely OOP anyway..
That's why I wanna see an injection-molded kit from Revell/Monogram... Bet they'd bring it in for under 50.00...
Meanwhile, a 1/48 -2 Privateer remains my "Eleanor", my "Unobtainium-based" kit...
Actually hans, you can still get that koster conversion kit, direct from koster. For $49.95 too. I just got stuf from koster last week and he always sends his "catalog" in every box. The PB4Y-2 conversion is listed on there. I'm looking at it now. Gotta email him though.
Dunno... Fifty bucks is still an awful lot, and I didn't get around to it last time.. IIRC, about all you use from the Monogram kit is the wings and flight-deck... And you have to cut the engine nacelles from the wings, since the Privateer's engine nacelles are "turned" 90 degrees...
I don't want to chop up my last remaining B-24D, and the cheapest I can find a B-24J is for around 30 bucks (Hobby Lobby doesn't have it)... That's eighty-plus dollars for a model I've lived without building for 45 of my 53 years...
Druther raise hell with the injection-molders however, at least according to the unofficial "polls" here and the magazine, it appears that I'm a lone voice in wanting to see this bird in 1/48th scale AND from Revell/Monogram, lol...
Good price... When I first bought that model, it ran me upwards of a 1.39! As it sits right now, I finished one of them for the last Monogram Mafia, and still have three or four in the stash, plus one from HobbyCraft...
Don't worry, even at 2.00, it's a great little kit... It'll help if you give the rear guns a swipe or two with a razor saw to separate the barrels, and the 37mm guns will need some work, especially hollowing out the flash-suppresors (if you toss the instructions and build it as a Ju87G)... Careful though.. The barrels are thinly-molded and the styrene is brittle.. Easy to snap them in two...
That is sweet Doogs ,need more pics!!!

Make that two....not as alone voices!
It might lose a little luster though, if it was readilly avaliable......I'd still buy it!
Thanks for the added pics ,theres some really sharp looking builds there and yours is just stunning!!. That 190 v18 was one I've not seen before .
make it 3.. ! I go the Matchbox Privateer in the stash...
