DONATING MODELS
Posted by tankerbuilder on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 3:19 PM

While I was in heaven last saturday at the ALAMO SQUADRON/IPMS show and contest, I am always in heaven when surrounded by well built models! I noticed something nice. There was a fellow with a table. He was taking cash and models donated for the " WOUNDED WARRIERS " Program. Now I will do anything I can for the troops who are not physically well because of their time in the " Sandbox" as I have heard middle east service referred to. I almost emptied my van of the models I had brought to sell or trade. Now, the fellow told me they check the kits for the instructions and parts. They want to make sure the decals are there too.Other than that, they WILL take started kits as well. Unlike the V.A. it doesn,t have to be pristine, just complete. I didn,t have the cash to enter anything ,but the raffles were in my favor that day. I left with more than I would have if I had some cash. The " Wounded Warriers " and the V.A. need your help. I know, once you donate something, that some will bug you incessantly. Stand firm and do it as you please.I am eligible for kits and craft kits from the V.A. and today they(At AUDIE MURPHY HOSP. RECREATION DEPT.) did NOT have any models for outpatients. That,s how tight things have gotten. Can you help? The feeling I had after the show from my actions ,made me feel like I had won BEST in SHOW !! Try it you,ll like it.        tankerbuilder

I have never made it to a "show" yet but have heard they are a great place to pick up additional kits for the stash.  That being said, I managed to grow a sizable stash and of some kits that wouldn't break my heart to donate to a worthy cause.

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

On the Tarmac: 1/48 Revell P-38

In the Hanger: A bunch of kits

I wish there was programs like this in Canada.

While I don't have much of a stash to donate - I'd have no problem finding stuff to donate either from shows, flea markets etc.

CHRIS , are you saying they don,t have facilities to medically treat your veterans ? I hope not ! You probably can find something similar to our D.A.V. , AMERICAN LEGION or V.F.W. that your veterans join. You can probably work something out through them .GOOD LUCK !     tankerbuilder

Check with your local IPMS-Canada chapter.

The model donation project for Wounded Warriors is an ongoing program of IPMS-USA.  The immediate past president, *** Montgomery  is from SanAntonio,  home of Brooks Army Medical Center.   He is aware of the recreational & physical therapy benefits which model building can provide.   He established the program soliciting donations from not just modelers,  but manufacturers and vendors as well (*** twists a mean arm!) .  Not just the Alamo chapter of IPMS-USA,  but many of the chapers also support the program.

Check with your local IPMS-Canada chapter or check the regional and/or national level  organiztions to see what they are doing.   I'm sure that there are Canadian troops which have gone into harms way which will benefit from the program

EDIT: *** in the above post is the common nickname applied to Richard.   The website's nannybot doesn't approve of it
