How has your life been influenced by your modeling skills?

Modeling is my meditation.  It keeps me from flippin' out and killin' someone.

It enhances an already healthy appetite for military history.

Keeps me active and alert in retirement.

Also, I melt the butter and airbrush it on the toast....

The voices in my head talk to me about model building, instead of killing people.

I think that is an improvement.

It's also helped me clean my mind during this forgettable unemployment that I've been on. 

Yeah, they have come in handy. Like most of you I'm sure, people are constantly asking me to glue things back together or fix this and that. I get asked to paint stuff from time to time, especially to camouflage something. I guess having a knack for replicating surfaces is handy out side of modeling. For example... A key box mounted outside the studio where I used to work, painted to blend in with the faded red iron framing. At a cursory glance it was not easy to spot even at head height.

This hobby has kept me away from booze (as a habit) and loose women.

Excellent excersize for the brain, to put towards everyday problem solving.

It makes me want to be a better person...

The attention to detail really helped in my other passion...decorating cakes...especially cupcakes.

The attention to detail demanded by model building helped me obtain a technical job when I was just beginning my career.

It's a major stress-reliever for me.  If I'm focusing on a model, then I'm not worrying about things at the office or elsewhere.

It is also complementary to my other interests of naval history and auto racing.

• perfect distraction after staring at a computer screen most of the day
• Enhanced first aid skills - CA to close cuts, Xacto blades for removing splinters
• helped me learn all kinds of German vocabulary, mostly ranks, manufacturers & colours though...
• I believe SWMBO prefers me to have a modeling addiction rather than booze, smokes &  gambling. (although opening a Dragon kit is often a gamble....)
