Does anyone know of any good shows around Raleigh, NC? Ive always wanted to go to one but never seen one around. Are there any annual shows or something to go to? Im mostly interested in aircraft.

Derek:

There's a show in Statesville, NC on 3/17 this month, never been to it and don't know how large it is.

Our club is in Roanoke, VA which isn't too far from you so here's our website. Sorry I can't direct link, but you can click on 'events'.

Our show is in August this year, and though I hate to brag has historically have been really good shows if you want to take a bit of a drive. Sometimes our club carpools for a road-trip if we don't want to all drive.

Have you checked the Raliegh, NC IPMS website? They would have the best information since they either put on the local show or travel to a show in the region. Like most IPMS local chapters, you do not have to be a member of the organization to join the club. You should contact them and attend a local meeting.

There's a local swap meet coming up in that area as well. Check out their calendar:

Good timing on your post.  Matt has an editorial in the new FSM on attending shows and contests, whether you compete or not.  I thoroughly second that editorial.  Even the smallest local show always has something inspiring.  Through the years I have gleaned a myriad of ideas from shows.  You see what other folks are doing, and how they are doing it.  Much better to see directly with your own eyes than from pictures in mags and books.  Many shows have tutorial sessions- some are only so-so, but the good ones make up for the bad ones.

You can really see from the awards what judges like and don't like, to help your building if you intend to compete.
