I have to second DON on the ALCLAD. It,s good stuff and there,s this too.I had a box of chrome parts that I was going to send to CHROMETECH. Now ,if I had done that it would,ve cost about $150.00. I had parts for about nine cars and some other stuff in there.I bought the ALCLAD and did it up.I will still send stuff to them.(they do an awesome job! ) But I will also use ALCLAD from now on. Paint it gloss black and then alclad it.  Alclad does a good job of representing chrome or polished aluminum.

There is a company that will re-chrome plastic parts for model cars.

I had thought of that, but as we all know, I will NEVER reproduce that shine with paint unless I use Alclad. But really it;s not worth it, same as bare metal foil. I just didn't kow if anyone has run across this before. It's a great '66 Lindberg kit of a 1931 Bughatti royale, I normally only do WWII stuff, just thought I'd give this a shot.

You can always remove the chrome and then spray paint it on.

Dull Chrome on old kit parts
Posted by jody_c on Monday, March 5, 2012 2:48 PM

I recently cracked oprn a very old car kit. The chromed parts are dull and disclored. I tried cleaning them with vingar, and even tried a very gentle polishing, but they still are hazy and dull. Anybody got any ideas on how to get that great chrome sparkle back?
