If you are a member of Facebook, we have closed group called Scale Model Trader you can request to join. The group consist of the people you describe that have collections they are either looking to thin, or look for that grail kit. I have exchanged or sold many items there myself....
ajlafleche The inability of users here to sell or trade from their stashes is a drawback of this forum....But no selling/trading is the rule in this house, so we have to abide by it.

While it is a drawback, it is also a benefit. This is the one site where I visit and don't read about somebody taking a chance with the well known crook and then getting burned. Whether it is HS with the Ken of many names from Houston; ML with the Scottish resin maker who doesn't; or BigA's scamming editor of days gone by, we don't get those here.
www.armorama.com
they have a buy and sell section,I have used it and done well.
The inability of users here to sell or trade from their stashes is a drawback of this forum. The other modeling forums I visit all allow this, even one with far more front page advertising. One long term wel known guy at another site put up a post asking for emails of those interested in a planned stash cleaning list. Thise sites also feature formal feature reviews and have news announcements from directly manufacturers.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
Many modeling sites have buy/sell/trade forums. There are also genre specific sites (aircraft, armor, ship, etc.) that will get the most interest if your collection is focused on one type of genre. Obviously, if your stash is mainly aircraft, go to an aircraft modeling site, etc.
One word of advice when dealing with folks online is do do a quick search in that sites' forum to see if there are any "names" that are known to be bad traders or cheaters. It takes just a few seconds and can save you headaches and "I told you sos".
My stash is small but it never gets built due to the never ending battle of the sexes and I'm losing to an Army of womens shoes that invade and occupy my planned display space. Great.
ALL OF YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!
There is of course eBay.
Of course these forums could use some section for wanted/for sale between members. I realize it's against the forum rules currently, but I belong to another forum that restricts posts to those sections to registered members over a defined number of posts to limit people that sign up just to sell stuff.
The advantage is also people can post their "wants" where they can post a thread stating they're looking for that hard to find kit that may be in someone's stash.
Maybe an email to the powers that be suggesting a revisit of the current policies?
That sounds like a good idea
