Beautiful!  I've been looking for cases like those for ages, but too expensive new.  I've been eyeing this one store near me that I never see customers - bad of me, but I think I would be the first one there if they closed up.

Reasoned

You know Doogs, perhaps the reason why Mrs. Doogs went along with that is she has few "little" furniture additions in mind too. Wink

I would be somewhat less than shocked...

 DoogsATX:

Came with something like seven shelves. Yeah I'm planning on replacing the brackets (just need to figure out if there's one standard bracket size...I think so...) and getting more shelving. I'd like 10 - so 5 per side.

Those a pretty common shelving brackets. You can get them at any large building supply like Home Depot or Lowes. Probably even Walmart and Target. I think they come in 8", 10" and 12" lengths.

Yeah, also found a website that's got them for dirt cheap. Like $1.30 each, without that "as long as you order 1000" crap that so many retail suppliers require.

Beautiful cases!  There was a local  bookstore going belly-up near here, selling out all the fixtures.  I checked them out but they were badly beat up, no lighting, etc.  You really came up with a great deal there!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

That is one nice big display case. I like that big light it has. My wife bought me two display cases at Ikea. They have black metal frames and are about 15x15 almost 6ft tall. They have 5 shelves each so I can put  a lot of stuff in there.

Hans von Hammer

 Indifferent

600.00 bucks is my entire year's modeling budget...

Guy I bought them from said shipping for one of them was $600 when he ordered them years ago. Judging by the prices I've seen on these things, not surprised.

DOOGS,when I think how many ships they would hold , I started turning green with envy.I just picked up two mixed media cabinets at OFFICE DEPOT. They will have to do UNTIL,I go and find some 1/4 inch lexan in 4x8 sheets. Then I will use one for a pattern and then the bigger one,1/200 and above will equal two of these side by side.GOOD FIND indeed !  TANKERbuilder

Yeah, those B-25/26's are gonna be hard to store safely and you can't really hang them vertically like a 109.

Yeah, 30" would be a tough find. These are 18" deep - but that means they can realistically take something with up to probably a 20" or so wingspan. Don't think the 1/32 HK B-25 is going to fit, but if it doesn't, it'll be the odd one out. Well - until I succumb to WingXL's forthcoming 1/32 B-26...Embarrassed

Great find, DoogsATX- finding a display cabinet big enough for my 1/32 multi-engined planes is my Holy Grail as no one seems to offer anything with a 30" depth...  dude, color me jealous.

Very nice find with lots of room to expand.

I would paint the inside a little blue, this seems to look good as a background on photos.

looks good, how many shelves and brackets did it come with, can you get more ? because that will hold a lot of builds for sure.

NICE score! I am Jonesing for some cases but with my build speed it will be a long time before I even need one.

Display Cases!
Posted by DoogsATX on Thursday, March 22, 2012 12:39 PM

Thanks to my wife's ever-vigilant following of craigslist ads, we found out a local Hallmark store was selling two lit display cases for $300 each. And she gave me the go-ahead!

They're a  little bit tore up, but nothing bad. I'm planning to replace the shelf brackets, so on and so forth, but my goodness. Glass on three sides, already wired with fluorescent lighting, and 18" deep (big enough to take 1/32 P-47s!).

First one's been delivered, second one is inbound. Quite thrilled!

And the 1/32 109 and Spit look absolutely lost in there...
