thankyou
Posted by fightnjoe on Friday, February 6, 2004 9:57 AM
to fsm
i apologize if this is in the wrong topic discussion

if you have ever had someone look at you wierd when you say i build models. or if someone has ever said to you "i used to build models when i was a kid" you will understand. to each of you i say thankyou. after much frustration and dissapointment i have finally found a place where i can talk of these "toys" and not feel as though i am from an alien world.

again i say thankyou to all be you builders of ships, scifi, autos, figurines, armor, or a/c, or anything else. we all share this love of plastic and for no other reason we are part of a family. i find myself reading posts and looking at pics from all the forums. i find myself taking more and more time to be involved in this community. to those at fsm, great appreciation for the chance to become involved in such a community. to those who share knowledge thankyou you are a great resource. to those who post pics your work is art to me.

although i am not a very good writer i hope i have expressed some of the feelings that others share.

Society's opinion of "modelers" and "modeling" is a common topic here. We deal with PO'd wives and girlfriends and are considered practicing a kids "art". But we all say "up theirs" and continue to enjoy our hobby. It ain't cheap and it ain't easy-but it's fun. Welcome aboard! Me, Myself and Styrene.

You're in a great place, and it's all centered around the love of the hobby. You can rant, rave, jump up and down (although we can't see that), cry, laugh or anything else in this hobby and be understood without being condemned (I hope). I've gone through some strange moods here, and am still accepted as one of the guys...

You are, too!

Likewise.
I belong to some other forums as well, but this is the only one with a sense of 'family'.

I agree, Bruce, it does feel more like family here. I like to think this is a "kinder, gentler" forum and feel at home here.

Joe, I like how you stated community. I've read many posts and you can't help but feel part of just that, "community". I like how our members have rallied around members who have had some real tough breaks. It's just so heartwarming.

I've been told numerous times to "grow up" and quit wasting my money on these "idiotic toys." But I look at those who spit out these comments and wonder maybe if they had a hobby like this, some of them wouldn't be addicted to terrible substances. I'm addicted to plastic! And this fine community brings us together, from all age groups, cultures, and countries. I am another grateful modeller...

My dad used to always say "I can't believe you bought another damned model". But I have always enjoyed this hobby and kept myself outta the psyco ward with it. Recently after my father became disabled I got him into the hobby wih me. Now, what wise cracks can I give him.....hmmmmmmmm.

Fightinjoe, I completely agree with you here! It feels so good to come here and get tips from these experts, and show off the work that I do. I also love to laugh at all the great comments about "those People out there" who don't understand. and everyone's experiences with them! Evil [}:)]

The sense of community here is definitely real, and I am so glad to be a part of it! Cool [8D]

Glad you found a place for your modeling home. I have loved coming here ever since I found it and have always liked the community that is here. It's great to have met the likes of folks here. I have gone to a couple of other forums where thre is alot of griping and complaining over stupid little things but I can't really recall any negative things between members here.

Joe, I am with ya....Sometimes it's hard to even tell people what you enjoy, because you know what's going to come out of their mouth even before you tell them. It is a great famliy here in this family!!! Even between armor and AC, even though I swear that all of the armor boys have a new badge in their signature with a prop crosses off....don't think I haven't noticed fellas!!!! See Joe, just like sibling rivalry, even though we all know who is the younger sibling?!Tongue [:P]
