CA Glue Cleanup?
Posted by Kugai on Monday, April 30, 2012 11:08 PM

Is there something that can be used to clean up CA glue that doesn't attack plastic?  I've had it get where it wasn't intended on kits a few times and am hoping to have something to deal with such incidents if they come up again.

Fingernail polish remover works, but check on scrap pieces of plastic from that kit to see if it will effect that brand of plastic.

There are debonders available- several brands (same as brand of glue).  I think it is probably the same stuff regardless of brand.  I tried some on a different brand of glue and it worked fine and did not seem to harm plastic. Like CA glue itself a little goes a long ways.

Thanks for the tips.  I wasn't aware debonder could actually be used for cleanup.  My understanding was that ot allowed separation of parts, but didn't actually affect the glue beyond that.

I did remove some unsightly blobs (I use primarily gel CA, which can gob up). I have not tried it for just thin spots of the regular CA so don't know how well it would work for that. If I just have the sheen of some regular CA spots I just paint over them with a touchup brush.  But the debonder does loosen blobs as well as seperate parts.
