Birds Of Steel

....anyone play this game yet?  I picked it up for our PS3 and been having quite a bit of fun with it. My assessment so far is :  a bit of IL2 , Battle of Midway , Blazing Angels and Combat Flight Sim II all rolled into one. It claims to have over 200 missions and over 100 flyable planes from 5 countries... USA , Britain , Germany, Russia and Japan. It has an arcade type setting, a historical and simulator settings and a mission editor (reminds me of CFS2 mission builder). I`ve only gotten thru a few missions on the easiest setting and been having fun with it. I did "test fly" a few planes in sim mode and was pretty realistic but not as technical as a real flight simulator. For $40, it`s a lot of game IMO.

There is a free demo to download from PSN and Xbox Live if you want to try it.
I allready downloaded that one, I think it is pretty fun, although I like the feel better in IL2 Birds of Prey.

Cool feature is that you can use planes from every theater of combat against each other in a very realistic feeling game, you're also able to modify the paint sheme on all the aircraft however you want.

Pretty good game, I wouldn't wait to long with buying it because it is allready not very easy to find, especially second hand.

With regards, Ninetalis.

...right, my 14yr old  son saw the demo on his PS3 and knew I`d love this game, so he downloaded for me. I went out to Gamestop the next day and bought a copy. My son is what I would call a hard core gamer and is pretty knowledgeable about the industry. He said the game came out in March of this year. I take him to Gamestop , prolly once a month and never saw this game on the shelf. This could be that everyone was buying them up or there weren`t that many copies to begin with. He searched theGamestop website and found a bunch of copies, both new and used, so they`re out there.

I`ve been playing a few times a week and haven`t even scratched the surface yet...lots of fun. I`ve played IL2 and both Battlestations Midway (PC) and Battlestations Pacific and it seems the planes are flown the same way in all 3. I wish they would come up with a joystick for these games, I find it hard to use the controller sometimes. I have a USB joystick for my computer but it doesn`t work with the PS3 too well...some functions work, some don`t.

In ending, I like the game very much and, IMO, it was worth the 40 bucks I spent for it!

Hmm, I can't say that battlestations is the same feel as birds of steel, birds of steel would be a mix between IL-2 and Battlestations, but more like birds of prey with a heavy feel (I've played battlestations for way to many hours,as it is my favorite game) there are joysticks out there, but don't ask me any names or prices or something like that.

I don't know how it is in the US, but here in belgium they're pretty hard to find second hand, I allready asked various shops to hit me up when they have any, and haven't had any answer for weeks.
Only 360 versions, but I don''t want those since I can't get on Xbox live anymore (lightning fried my internet on the Xbox and PSN is free anyway)

Damage inc looks like a newer version of "Heros of the pacific" that I had on PS2, and I liked that so it should be good.
