A Couple of Basic Questions
Posted by pilotjohn on Monday, May 14, 2012 8:45 PM

Hello All;

Wanting to get back into the hobby after about 7 years and need to do a lot of upgrading.  I have been browsing on compressors and the like, but after a search turned up many shops in the area, I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for hobby shops that fit the following:

Plastic aircraft (Modern military and WWII).

Scale 1/72, 1/48, 1/32.

I like to add after-market decals and things to add more detail.

I use a badger airbrush.

Thinking of getting into WWII armor.

I am in North Phoenix, Arizona.

Many thanks!

John

How do sir

Since I live in Montana I can't be much help to you hobby shop wise, but I can suggest Scale Hobbyist and Sprue Brothers as excellent online stores. Lots of kits, aftermarket stuff, figures, and other things your average hobby shop is not willing or able to tie up capital in.

As far as a compressor goes instead of getting a specialized one just for an airbrush I trotted down to the local Harbor Freight and picked up one designed to run an air nailer. It has a ten gallon tank and is regulatable (is that a word?). It's noisy, but aren't they all? It's not the best quality but how much does it get used (not that much really). I don't recall how much I paid for it but it was not alot.

Welcome back to the hobby

Regards,

Mark
