Are there modeling apps out there?
Posted by echolmberg on Thursday, May 24, 2012 1:49 PM

Hi folks!

I was just curious....are there any modeling apps out there that anyone uses?   I just got an iPod Touch and I'm having lots of fun with it.

Thanks!

iModelKit. I have it on my iPhone and it's great. It has all the paint charts.

I just dropped iModelKit on my iPod touch as well. Haven't played with it a whole lot yet though.

One that is sorta-related that I use is DropBox. I started keeping an Excel file of my kit stash, aftermarket goodies, "wanted" list, and will probably start keeping track of paint inventory so I don't come home from the LHS with a 7th bottle of Duck Egg Blue... Then I use DropBox to sync that file onto my iPod for viewing purposes.

Medic and Vance, thanks for the great info!  I never knew those existed and I will definitely load those tonight.  I, too, am tired of coming home with the 4th bottle of gloss black while I am still without any flat black.  Grrr!

I don't have a huge stash (maybe 15-20 kits?) but it's nice to know that I can keep things organized and documented.  My wife can tell you that the more tools I have to help keep me organized, the better.

Thanks again!

Google Docs (now Google Drive) spreadsheet is how I keep track of my kits/ paints.  I can access it on my Android as well as any pc.  I don't think there's a dedicated IPhone/Pod/Pad app for Drive, but you can get to it through safari on those devices.

That's a good idea. I thought I too knew what was needed only to discover I was wrong too many times.

Electrodroid- Great tool if you are into lighting.

Even if you are not its fun to play with.

Available for Android too.

I am a PC guy, not an apple guy, so I don't know specific programs, but generically the  two application programs I use the most for modeling are a simple 2D CAD program and a photo editing program (for decals, painting masks, etc).  I also use the photo editing program for touching up and modifying the photos I take of my completed models.
