I was just at Hobby Lobby and they had really good prices on their ott lights. I picked up the table model for 17.99-- reg.70.00. I always wanted one, but normally even 40% off isn't enough.

I picked up three from Michaels as well. Two were the desktop kind and one was a large free standing one. Nice lights.

Years ago, I found a desktop Ott-Lite at a garage sale.

More info.
Was it a clearance stickered item with all the other Ott lights or was it in the special clearance section where they have all kinds of junk, usually broken or missing something?
Use the 40% off coupon and start stocking up on replacement bulbs. They will last a good long time but having a couple spares is good. They fade over time and when you need a spare, you'll have it on hand.

I guess I am not sure what Ott lights are. Are these the ones that better duplicate natural sunlight?
I know some folks advocate sunlight spectrum for model building, but I guess I do not see the point. I very seldom have my finished models out in the sunlight. At shows/contests they are invariably viewed in artificial lighting.

Don,
I think that is the premise. However I like them because they have a nice bright light that is easy on the eyes. Much more so than the florecesants (sp) I have.
Mitsdude, I found the lights in the clearance section of the store. I went back and bought another one. The lights won't make my models any better, but they really are easy on the eyes.
I got an Ott Light from Hobby Lobby once that was priced wrong. It had a $30 price tag but it was supposed to be over $70. SCORE!!!

Went to my local HL looking for them, but found none, and they have completely eliminated their stock of magnifiying table and workbench lights. Brilliant marketing strategy. Nothing but knick-knacks for little old ladies, now.
Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...
I love mine. I use two to eliminate shadows.
I did finally find one at HL for $45 and an extra bulb. Its the floor standing model.
Everytime I turn mine on I am happey that I bought it.
Many will say, what gives with the OTT lights? Well, besides being easier on the eyes(part of their designed function) they will definitely improve you ability to do closer to scale colors on those hard worked, detailed out models.
This is ,for me, a real plus.I have ,(although i,m getting on) excellent color acuity still. Color acuity is the ability(built in) to discern variations in colors across the spectrum and sometimes even the more subtle colors.
OTT-LITES will aid you here.My acuity is still at 98 some odd percent. this means I find those little scudders indispensible. You can buy wannabes and then install the OTT bulbs.I have saved some, but.not a lot that way.USE them ,YoU will like them! TANKER-builder
