Hey guy !

How's it going ? Just gotta let you know that maybe LEGO heard ya .They are indicating some steampunk type stuff .Either in game form or their kits  , we,ll see . just thought I would let you know .I took a balloon and using hairnets soaked in white flour glue  , Remember paper machie' ? Anyway the balloon was popped and I used a different one inside it with helium in it and used the " ROCKET steam train kit " and other older steam engine kits to dress it up .

I got the idea from a JULES VERNE novel , so yes there's lots of food for thought out there .  Hey , TIM that was some awesome stuff .I didn't know there was that much interest .You do know that the DISNEY NAUTILUS from 20,000,00 leagues was STEAMPUNK STYLE . Oh , and the paper model from GERMANY of VERNE'S sub is definitely STEAMPUNK .I think that stuff is neat !      Tanker-Builder

Guys - Cutting edge technology for 1910:

More info over at http://mrr.trains.com/

Although not steam powered, it has that "Steampunk" feel.

 Don Stauffer:

There was an aircraft designed during, I think, the 1880s, I believe called the Henson steam carriage. It was never built because no one would invest money in it, yet it might possibly have flown, though structurally it looks a bit weak (it was a wire braced monoplane).  The design was somewhat in the steampunk vernacular.  So that steam plane might be considered steampunk.

I have long thought of trying to model that plane.  Having my interest peaked in steampunk again, maybe I should look up all the drawings I have (none scale, all just perspective views, probably for stock promotion) and take a whack at building that.

Talking about this neat wee beastie?

Skycaptain and the world of tommorow was awesome. I loved that movie. Could never get my other half interested in it. She always thought it was stupid. I loved the P-40 in it.

Gamera: You're right, Crimson skies, sky captain, suckerpunch etc. Its Diesel-Punk. Its much dirtier, gritter, and set in a later time period.

Wow, neat stuff guys! Yes

And thanks for the link Tim, I've seen some awesome stuff from war-gamers but that takes the cake. Love the zeppelin dock!

Oops, sorry.  I was referring to Arcanum.  I also like jagged alliance 2, baulders gate, and fallout 2 from around that same time.  I probably played crimson skies more than any of them though.

Never played Crimson Skies but yeah the others were all classic games Yes

Not sure I'd call 'Sky Captain' steampunk though since it was set around the 30's-40's I believe. Like the recent Captain America movie with the National Socialists running around with lasers and death rays I'd call it maybe World War II punk? Think I've seen the term dieselpunk before, not sure if it applies.

I might be interested, I'll have to look around and see if I have anything that might fit. Nice stuff there Knabria, if it wasn't for me trying to whittle down my bloated stash I might give some of their stuff a whirl. I'm somewhat more inclined to just scratchbuild though, somehow I like the idea of a dirgible... Hmm

While I do like a number of steampunk stories, I haven't been that interested in building anything along those lines.  About the closest to it I've had idea-wise will probably seem a bit goofy and set several decades after the usual steampunk setting...

I've been contemplating a long-term project for a "Macross:1946" scratch-and-bash concept.  Shinano-type carrier arms, Tesla-coil-inspired main gun, turrets and bridge from the Yamato class...

One message I get from the response to this thread is that kit mfgs, especially like Mobius and even AMT that put out some of the weirder kits would do well to bring out some steampunk kits!

I found the intro video to one of the RPGs I refereed to on YouTube. Arcanium was a RPG released for the PC back around 2000 or so. An inventor named Gil Bates by mass marketing the new fangled steam engine sets a fantasy world into an industrial revolution. Fun game with wizards and steam locomotives. And the ogres flying planes in the intro- love that.

Museum curator: The ogres were flying airplanes?

Player character: Yes, but not very well.
