68 Years ago Today - D-Day
Posted by Blueline on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 12:17 PM

Let us remember those who fought and died on this day in 1944.

Although the term D-Day is used routinely as military lingo for the day an operation or event will take place, for many it is also synonymous with June 6, 1944, the day the Allied powers crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, beginning the liberation of Western Europe from Nazi control during World War II. Within three months, the northern part of France would be freed and the invasion force would be preparing to enter Germany, where they would meet up with Soviet forces moving in from the east. - Source

I must say I forgot that today is D-Day. My thanks to all the brave allied soldiers who fought on that hellish day.

During my career as a new reporter/photographer I interviewed many soldiers and sailors who participated in D-Day. I also  interviewed some who took part in Operation Tiger, a training exercise for D-Day. Unfortunately none of them are still alive. If you see a veteran of any war,  please shake their hand and thank them for their service. It means a lot to them to be recognized.

It is also the end of the battle of Midway, and Dutch harbor and the start of the invasion of Kiska on the 6th and Attu on the 7th.

Heh.. Not that it matters to anyone, but it is a fact that I hate the 21st Century...  Out of all the kits I got, around 300 or so, I think only about 10% are kits that were manufactured after 2001..

Even my car is an '81... (El Camino, for those of you who were about to ask..) Got my eye on a 1970 Ford LTD too (Vary little rust, and the 351 Windsor in it purrs. Well, not purr, but it makes that "Ford Sound" of a purr. More like a diesel, lol.... Owner wants 2 grand for it, but it ain't getting many hits.. But I can get it from him for 1700 in a few weeks..

My first car was a '70 LTD, so I guess I just wanna "go back", lol..
