No F-106 Delta Dart in the Vietnam War, Why?

The USAF lost 15 F-102s in Vietnam serivce.. One in air-to-air combat to a MiG-21's Atoll missile... The remaining 14 losses were to enemy ground-fire and accidents.. The two-seat TF-102A was also used in the Fast-FAC role by the 509th FIS in 1964.  The type was withdrawn when the "Beagle Threat" (Il-28s) never materialized..

I'm not interested in modern jets because they lack "personality."  I love the Vietnam-era jets.  Each of them is highly unique.

I only study the Air Force equipment "in passing", or when it is closely related to USN/USMC

As a consequence of that,,,,the only "reverse Mig kill" records I have are the losses listed in such books as the "Tonkin Gulf" by Francillion

I had to cut the herd down in kits, books and decals,,,,,but, sometimes I do miss a few of those "off topic" books

Chris, when you read up about the Dart's time in VietNam,,,,,they should have talked about the Dart's intended mission, and the fact that it was not needed all that long to defend the air base,,,,,,the Thuds and Phantoooms could do that just fine

so, when the 102's went home, there was no need for the 106's,,,,and the Puzzle Palace Pencil Pushers were constantly afraid that our fleet of Voodoos, Darts, and Daggers were going to have to fend off the Bears if we "did too well in the bush"

Double duty for the Thuds and Phantoooms made more sense,,,,,send most out for air to mud, some as MigCap,,,,some on instant scramble alert (or whatever the USAF called their Hot Pad guys)

you picked a great era to model, there,,,,,,,,,,there is a constant variety of weapons and aircraft,,,multiple US services to do,,,,,and many foreign services in the bargain,,,,,,you could build for years just trying to get "one of each" done

Wrong mission i guess.  I think it was more of a strategic defender against soviet bombers.  But then, everything i know about it came from wiki so i could be way off.
