I received an email from our club that got a letter from Colpars' owner explaining their affiliation with HobbyTown.  They plan on  maintaining or expanding their aftermarket and plastic kit selection.  Basically Hobbytown can get them better deals on R/C. which is a huge chunk or their business, along with the advertising presence.  They certainly have a lot more room for things, including club meeting places and other things to be determined.  They will continue to offer club members a discount, which if my experience is any guide, you can make back in just a couple of  kit purchases.  I hope for their continued success, I have been going to Colpar for over 36 years (just look at my stash), and I'd hate to see them go the way of so many brick and mortar stores.  I think that that type of retail is best for consumers,  call me old fashioned.

Doug, I don't work for Colpar, D

I LOVE my local Hobby Town. The people are friendly and they have great support for RC and Plastic and yet other stuff. They are great people and really are there to help out and have fun. Im ok with Hobby Town as that gives them the ability to get me whatever I want, even if I have to wait a tad or pay a bit more. They hominess and stockpile of it works for me. Case in point is a full display of MM enamel, acrylic, Tamiya, Valejo, etc. They always seem to have something that I 'need' or am pretending to 'need' :)

Well, at least you still have a decent hobby store in your town. The one in my town is RC-oriented, and the really good one is 30 minutes away.

Chain or no chain, the store is still run by people from within your community.  I worked briefly at my local Hobby Town store and the owner was a local guy who mostly hired college kids working their way through school.  I was the "old man" in the group.  LOL!

Regardless if the store is part of a national chain or not, the store is still owned and staffed by your neighbors.  It's still in their best interest to provide excellent service and competitive pricing.  Heck, I've even asked for discounts at my local Hobby Town and other hobby shops in town and I've gotten them.  Interaction with live human beans is still the best.

It wasn't a shock to the  local club members.  The move had been announced a month ago at least,, along with the name change.  Many local club members helped with the move.  The internets  isn't always the best way to stay in touch with model happenings after all.  I'm sure that Colpar will always be getting the latest stuff in.  As to pricing, well....join a club or IPMS and get a discount there.

Hopefully there won't be the pricing issues that keep me away from HobbytownUSA; usually the high sticker price.

I decided to drop in on my local hobby shop today (Colpar Hobbies), which I don't often do as it is across town for me, but when I pulled up in front of the store, I was shocked to see the building empty and dark, and two guys carrying store shelving out to load into a pick-up. I sat there for a moment in stunned silence, until one of the men came over to me and explained to me that they had moved. The other man walked up and handed me a flier showing their new location. I went off to find them, but when I arrived at the new store, I found my second shock! Out front, over the entrance" were two signs, one that said "Colpar Hobbies" and a second one that said " HOBBY TOWN USA!" At first I thought they moved next door to Hobby Town, but when I entered, I found that they had indeed "joined forces" with HT! No longer an independent, but now part of a chain! I spoke to an employee and was assured that they were still Colpar Hobbies, and the biggest change would be better pricing in RC equipment! I told him my concern was the fact that they have always had the biggest selection of plastic kits anywhere, and how sometimes I found kits there that I could not on-line! I hope that doesn't change....

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?
