How many people in this forum are 21 and under? From my experience this hobby is dominated by older people, let's see if this thread confirms that.

I viewed classic 1950s cars when they were fresh off the assembly line.
And getting older hasn't changed my opinion about how awful some of those two tone paint job colors were,either !

I remember playing computer games at a neighbours' house that was installed from a cassette tape. I've listened to music on vinyl. I HAD to have a pair of Reebok Pump sneakers. The first car I drove was a Pontiac Acadian (re-badged Chevette).

Might have been a Radio Shack game unit.
First computer - myself & a mate went 50/50 on one of these;
Which had an HDD that I scrounged from my auntie (only a few years prior, myself & my cousin had a huge amount of enjoyment from this "HDD" simply by screaming into it as loudly as possible & replaying it - great fun);
Myself & said mate found code in a magazine to create an animated engine, after much excitement & a whole weekend of tapping away at the infernal box we ended up with something that was dismally disappointing - a box, a line & a circle (piston, con rod & crank) jumping about on the TV screen
I've been modeling now for over sixty years, I'm well into my seventies. I am from the BP era (before plastic).

A lot more stuff happened, but I'm sure you're tired of reading trivia about 1949 by now .
Ozzman, I notice no one has yet answered your original query, which was something like, "who here is 21 or younger." Interesting ...

I have many children (six), and am familiar with kids and modeling. It is not a hobby a youngster can afford to do on one's own.
When I was young, good model kits were under $2. Most model kits were well under a dollar. I could collect 5 cent cans and buy a Frog, Hawk or Airfix bagged kit with very little effort. Testors or Pactra paint bottles were a dime.
Today, my 7 yr old son would have to accumulate nearly $10 to get one of the foil bagged, pre-painted Star Wars snap kits (found at clearance stores like TJ Max or Marshall's for around $5). That's a lot of nickel cans. They are nice little kits and we've built more than a few together.
Car kits at Walmart are nearly $20. For that amount of money, my kids can buy an older DS, Wii or PS3 game.
