Tamiya raising prices
Posted by REDFROGHOBBIES on Monday, July 30, 2012 11:15 AM

Hi all

Just a note to let you all know that Tamiya has announced a price increase of 10% starting Aug 1. This appears to be a across the board increase on plastics, paints and such.

Just an FYI

Regards

Ron

Must be the drought...or is it the tension in the mideast, or the Tsnumai, or wait...just because?

Thanks for the heads up

Least surprising headline of the day.

In these days of a slow or stagnant economy, these kinds of price increases just don't make sense. It is not just Tamiya, I see big increases from several mfgs.  I find I am finally making a dent in my stash, and doing more scratch projects.  I won't pay the prices I see on many kits these days.

People have always complained about kit prices, but for decades the increases were in line with, or even less than the inflation rate.  That is currently no longer the case!

Meh. Don't like it, don't pay it. And honestly anybody paying MSRP for Tamiya products - any of them - isn't being very smart to begin with. Sprue Brothers routinely sells for 20-25% off, Squadron slightly less so, Scale Hobbyist often moreso.

You are correct, most if not all online retailers offer a discount off of MSRP. We do also at Redfroghobbies. We just wanted to give you guys a heads up that Tamiya is raising prices.

I have so many kits to build right now that I absolutely will not pay what they ask. I will have live 25 more years to build them all and I've even started to build paper kits on top of that.

.....even with a coupon or store discount, you`ll still be paying 10% more for anything Tamiya...

Unfortunatly we don't all get those kind of deals. And while kits in the US are as a rule cheaper than in the UK, once you add postage, you lose most of that saveing. So a lot of us have no choice but to buy at the MSRP. Well, we do have a choice. Don'y buy it.

just like certain other kits that are only made by one company in a quality molding,,,,,,I won't have a choice concerning buying Tamiya kits or not

of the 3 kits that they do sell that fit my collections' theme,,,,,,1 is only available from Tamiya as a quality molding, and the other 2 will still be cheaper than Hasegawa even after the price increase

I love tamiya kits and will continue to buy them however if the one I want is made by monogram I will almost always buy it.
