Bored to tears and wishing I was building something....
Posted by Dre on Saturday, August 25, 2012 3:38 PM

Just a rant...  I'm sitting here in the media center at Bristol Motor Speedway waiting for the start of the 500 lap night race (scheduled for 7:30pm) and I wish I was at home working on something.   I've pretty much been down here since Wednesday afternoon covering stuff and my stash and workbench are only 8 miles away.

I could be getting something modeling-related accomplished instead of sitting here, but parking is such an issue that if I showed up later I wouldn't have any place to park.

Leave your car in the parking lot and take the bus home (and back).  Do you have a bus option?

Public transportation around here is a joke- it runs a circle route from the two WalMarts to the hospital to the downtown bus station.  We're kinda rural 'round here.

DRE, here I am sitting at work monitoring a computerized manufacturing process wishing I was at the track that's only a few miles away-yeah, BRISTOL baby!! I've always been as a spectator,NOT a media member. Wish I was at my bench OR better still, THE RACE!!!

Sit back, have a rib,a drink,ENJOY!  Beer

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and only annoys the pig.

Hey, Dre, the parking couldn't have been that bad; lots of empty seats to be had there. Sorry to see Danica out of it....Go Michael Waltrip racing!

Sounds like a reason for bringing snap-tite kits next time.......Hmm

NASCAR might not approve of non-sponsor products being used, but it is an idea for next time!

Parking is a PITA when you have to haul as much camera stuff as I do... a 400mm lens isn't light.

But, it was worth the wait and tiredness to get this shot...

Very Nice Photo !

Understandable about hauling camera gear.

I used to carry my film camera and lenses around my waist in modified web pouches for airshow photography along with a 500mm in it's case clipped to the web belt.

Would NASCAR allow these - or similar- Snap-Tite kits? :

Hard to say whether they'd go for that-  they would probably assume I had it with me to get it autographed, which is a big no-no for credentialed media types (although MM was nowhere to be seen this weekend).   There's enough autograph hounds in the the infield to make any driver's arm sore.

Heck, NASCAR can and will pull credentials for any reason real or imagined.  They truly are totalitarian.

Anyhoo, work is work and I can now return my attention back to what matters- building models!  I got home at 2am today to find a big box on my porch from Squadron with a 1/32 A-7D with resin goodies and a 1/32 MiG-23 with PE goodies inside.  That A-7D is actually kinda small for the scale.
