Posted by Buckeye on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 11:43 AM

Haven't had time to work on any plastic kits but I have been working on my full scale Triumph TR-6.Big Smile  Once it's retired to the garage for the winter I'm looking forward to getting back to the work bench.

What year is your TR-6?  I have a 1973. It's maroon. I am glad to see you are keeping the Redline tires on it.  I have had mine for for almost 30years. I am the second owner of it. Four years ago I had the engine rebuilt after an oil seal let go. I did replace the interior leather and dash board. The veneer dash board separated so I replaced it with a solid walnut dash. Finding Michelin Redline tires was difficult until I located Coker Tires. My TR-6 is not the best for gas mileage. It has Triple Weber carbs. I had a trailer hitch made for it so I can tow a small trailer with our camping gear. t's been super hot this summer in NH so I haven't run it much. I will be using it daily once cooler weather arrives.

When I was in high school I had an MG TD.  I had already built one scratch model by then, so decided to build a scratch model of the MG in 1:20 scale. It came out great, except for wheels.  Too hard to scratch really scale wheels, so I used generic car wheels from hobby shop.  Other than that, it looked great.  My first really good scratch project.

Nice!  I always loved the TR-6 since my cousin's neighbor had one when I was a kid.

Are there any model kits of these?

Gordon, my commission date is May 1976.  It's pimento red and still has the original paint.  In fact it's almost all original down to the factory air conditioning.  I was very lucky to learn of the car down in Atlanta.  When found the original tires were all flat so I also have the Coker red lines.  The spare is original..........just hope I don't need it.LOL  I have over drive so I'm getting about 23-24 mpg on the country roads around here.  I stay off the interstates.  Been very hot here in Ohio too but I've been getting out as much as I can.

Don, we passed a very nice white MGB out cruising this evening.

Dave, I have also always wanted one of these since I was a kid.  After almost two years of looking I finally found the right car.  I can honestly say it's been the best fun money I've spent in my life.

I've been searching for a model and posted last year in the auto forum looking for a kit but haven't found one yet.

That's cool. The three cars I wanted as a kid were the TR-6, Porshe 911 or a Corvette. Never had any of them.

Best of luck with the Triumph!

There are some die cast kits of the TR-6 and other British sports cars. Type Triumph TR-6 model kits in your  search engine and you will find three or four listings.

Thanks Dave!  I've really been enjoying it and it's amazing the memories it brings back to people that see it.  My other dream car was the Porsche 928.

Gordon, I did do a search some time back but came up empty.  I'll definitely take another look.  Thanks!

I forgot to state in my response about the TR-6 that I also have the factory hardtop for it. I found it in Mass. about six years ago, It is in mint condition and fortunately the same color maroon as the car. A few years ago I put the hardtop on and ran the car until mid-December because we didn't have any snow. The factory hardtops are difficult to find. Triumph only made one hardtop for every 1,000 cars.

I like your TRIUMPH my friend. My only foray into BRITISH wheels was an AUSTIN-HEALY 3000. Always loved the REVELL model and when old enough ,bought the real thing. Mine even had the "RUDGE" wire wheels. Heckuva car and lots of fun.Proud to say it found it,s way to DOVER when I sold it. TANKER-builder

Bow Down Oh how cool it would be to have an A-H 3000!  One of my favorite sports cars forever.   One of these days...yeah, right.  I think that ship has sailed.Crying
