Thanks Squadron!!
Posted by Duke Maddog on Sunday, September 16, 2012 3:31 PM

For those who don't know, I've had a Roden 1/72 scale An-12 Cub transport aircraft sitting on my workbench fully finished except for the canopy. That had gotten lost some time before while I was working on the model.  Anyway, I tried everything I could to get a new canopy; including posting on every Forum I frequented; contacting Roden (no good!) and I even called Squadron Mail Order. That model has been sitting for almost a year and I've about given up hope of ever getting a canopy for this model.

Just to let you know, I hadn't bought this kit at Squadron; it had been a purchase from a local hobby shop. Unfortunately, I don't remember which one. Despite that, Squadron was willing to help me out.

Just two days ago I got a call from Squadron letting me know that; despite not buying the Roden kit from them, they have managed to acquire a new canopy from Roden for my Cub and are sending it out to me. I should receive it sometime this coming week. They are only charging me postage for this as well! Man, they are awesome! I cannot wait to get my canopy so I can finally finish this model! Squadron ROCKS!! I just wanted everyone to know that!

Thanks again Squadron! The best customer service ever!

That is great news Mark! Kudos to Squadron! (and save those purchase receipts in the kit box my friend ;-) I always do that just in case...) Those mainly let me know how long a kit has been sitting in my stash once I finally build it...

I love Squadron. I have been buying from them since the early 80's. I am just as excited now, being in my 40s, as I was when I was in 7th grade to get their flyers each month. Their new website is a thousand times better than the old one as well. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in :)

Squadron gets my highest recommendations!  I have been buying from them for years.  Only once or twice has an error occurred, and they have always fixed it immediately!!  Special thanks to Jeff Melton, their customer service manager.  He has always responded promptly and taken care of the few problems I have had.

I had a few things sitting in my cart, waiting for the exchange rate to get a bit better.  25% off, and I put it in.  Great timing!

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

One thing you have to be careful of is that in many cases Squadron's prices are considerably higher than say, Sprue Brothers.  For example, the new 72nd Dragon Sea King is listed for $36.99 at Sprue Bros where it is  $44.99 at Squadron.

Once you apply the coupon you are a little better off for about 3 bucks and some change at Squadron, but in this case only the coupon makes sense in buying it at Squadron, and the savings aren't as great as they might first seem with the 25% off coupon...

...just keeping it real...

Not when you factor in the cost of shipping to Canada.  I found Sprue Brothers to be more expensive once that was factored in.  I made 2 identical shopping carts, and Squadron came out cheaper, even before the discount, for what I was looking for.

Hmmmmmmmm...not sure what you bought but I beleve shipping would have been about the same from either company...results will vary, but in general, I've found Sprue Brothers to be cheaper than Squadron...anyone can be their own judge; doesn't take much to take an item and see what it goes for at both places...

Jagdpanzer IV

Squadron: $58.49

Sprue Bros: $55.99

SAS Jeep

Squadron: $118.79

Sprue Bros: $109.99

Just as an experiment I took a couple of items that have just been released from both sites and compared prices...these both came from the JUST RELEASED parts of the sites...just keepin' it real...

I spent less than $60.  Maybe with larger orders it would level out.

Of course, I just got the brokerage bill from Fedex.  Don't ship norfh of the border.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.
