A THANK YOU POST
Posted by tankerbuilder on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 8:25 AM

Thanks,to all of you who responded to my question concerning the " TEXACO NORTH DAKOTA "

It is indeed that ship toy.OH,and by the way,the real reason I was prompted to post the question was, number one she doesn,t have even wells for wheels and she was ,number two-MOTORIZED.

I have never seen in 62 years any that were motorized.I thought someone had modified one,and yes she takes four "D" cells and does run.The prop has only one blade though and ALL the above deck stuff is gone(kingposts, booms walkways etc.)

I will now convert her to the J.L.HANNA in civilian dress instead of her quazi-NAVY setout.      TANKER-builder

A one bladed prop?! How does that work? Was it broken?

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Yo, MR.SUBFIXER ! Well,it goes like this.At my favorite flea market.See a box full of ,apparently toys.A bow is sticking up calling to me.

You know,"take me home" take me home".I pull this very dilapidated toy ship out and realize it,s a TEXACO TANKER ship toy.Hmmm,ODD, NO WHEELS  !and no place for any ! Prop? one blade, seriously injured ship-toy.Question.Why a prop? I have NEVER seen this ship toy with one of those.

I got it home and found four screw locations in the wreck of the main deck areas aft.Undo screws.Surprise,ALL the electrics are clean(battery corrosion wise) just full of dirt(dry kind).Yes ,it RUNS.(somewhat feebly, but it does run.

Now,conversion to J.L.HANNA  and semi-scale looks ,new rudder and prop and we,ll see.     TANKER-builder

Tanks, your thread caught my fancy, so I bid on and won a model. Reasonable cost, and I'm going to try making a real model out of her. When it comes, I'll put up a post over in ships. This should be fun.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
