Hey Echo139er,

Last time i went to Sydney (earlier this year), my gf and I stayed at The Rocks.

From there, we walked to this place:

http://www.hobbyco.com.au/

Located in the Queen Victoria Building.  It wasn't too hard to find, about a 1 hour walk from memory.  I guess it depends on where you're staying though.  Also, the QVB has a whole lot of other fashion shops and patisseries etc, so it's well worth checking out.

As for the shop itself, it has a pretty good range, but i think they do more model railroad than any other thing.

However, they do have a wide range of other 'general' hobby type stuff.

Enjoy your trip.

Chris

An hour from The Rocks? You must have been walking very slowly or looking at lots of things along the way. It shouldn't be more than 10-15 mins. (Or two stops if you catch the train.)

Unfortunately, Hobbyco is long past its prime. It's more of a boutique place now. Back in the late '70's early '80's it was as close to an Alladin's Cave for hobbies as one could get in Australia. Now it's just another shop, but it's the pretty much the only one in the Sydney CBD.

I love Australia. It was the only country I visited while in the Navy that actually made me feel that being a Yank was a good thing. Wish I was going back there.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Yep, had the gf with me, so many a fashion shops were visited, we also managed to get lost temporarily.

I still remember it being a decent walk though.

I'll admit, when i was there, there was a lot of vacant shelf space in their plastic kit section.  Would have been great to have seen it back in it's hey day.
