A forgotten model...
Posted by oddmanrush on Sunday, October 28, 2012 1:42 PM

I was on the phone talking to my father the other night and he said "I've got a model here for ya". It wasn't my birthday nor is it close enough to Christmas to excuse the purchase of a kit, so a bit confused I asked him to elaborate. He said he had been digging through some old bins and boxes in the closet and had found the Revell boxing of an Me-109 in 1/48th scale and said it must be mine.

I don't remember exactly ever having bought that kit. Must have been an impulse buy that I just tucked away for a rainy day before I had as large a stash or appreciation of modeling as I do now. Never the less, it was a pleasant surprise...almost like finding $20 in your old pair of jeans.

I'll be collecting it from his house soon, where it will be welcomed into my growing stash. Anything like this ever happen to you?

Yes, it's happened to me. When I left college and entered the Army, all the built, partially built and unbuilt kits from my childhood and college days were stacked in a storage space under the stairs in my parents' basement. They sat there for about 15 years untouched until I was stationed about 100 miles from home. I raided the stash for the 3 1/2 years I was nearby and then finally boxed it all up when I found out they would be moving.

Needless to say, I was amazed at some of the stuff I had collected back then and was grateful that a lot of it remained in good condition. The kits were mainly from the early 80s but there were some 1970s stuff sprinkled in.

I always found some forgotten kits while packing for a PCS...  Then usually forgot them again, until the next PCS...
