MOLDED-PLASTIC THERAPY
Posted by tankerbuilder on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 3:17 PM

This is a very timely article on ",I broke something and I cant do anything." I seem to recall, back in the dark ages(well 1977 to be exact) I got hurt and the upper left body and arm were in a cast.

I had to watch how I turned in a tight space or I,d bean one of the children.Well, the chest part came off and I was at wits end.The missus said so succinctly,"why don,t you work on that LINDBERG ship you cut up " ?

I was converting the "BLUE DEVIL" (U.S.S.MELVIN) to a GEARING CLASS- FRAM destroyer. The accident put that on hold. You would,ve gone to your reward just from laughing at my efforts. The first couple of weeks, now that I look back, were indeed funny !

I finally got down to a cast that let my left hand pop out(kind of like a turtle.) The doctor wouldn,t believe what my home therapy was.I did get into some interesting situations though. The end result,Well, the U.S.S.OZBOURN- D.D.846 won her class at an I.P.M.S. regional and took home peoples choice,at the local show.

MOLDED-PLASTIC THERAPY gives you your CAN-DO spirit back while letting you do what you love !!This is why ,years later I had a model craft class at the V.A. facility in MARTINEZ , CA.The sheer satisfaction of seeing these vets,on the mend and NOT saying,"I can,t do that" was as intoxicating as a fine wine to me.Take it from guys like MATTHEW and I, IT WORKS !!     TANKER-builder         P.S. This is in response to his editorial in the newest issue.

I had a heart bypass a couple of years ago.  Had limited mobility and had to stay on first floor of my house- workshop was in basement. I built a robot kit, since the correct colors were molded in and I would not have to paint it.  Set up a lap desk on an easy chair and was able to glue and screw together the parts. It was indeed very therapeutic to work on a model after a week hospital stay and not being able to do anything with modeling.

Funny how people misuse commas & apostrophes.

Blueline

Funny how people misuse commas & apostrophes.

Smile It's "funny" how some people feel the need to point that out, isn't it? Stick out tongue
