Dummy nuts and bolts
Posted by Don Stauffer on Sunday, December 2, 2012 10:45 AM

I know the model railroad people use them a lot.  Plastic bolt heads and nuts- nonfunctional- that you glue to surfaces for detailing. I need some for a non-operating aircraft engine project.  I am not that familiar with model railroading vendors.  Went to Walthers- them I know- but they had the vaguest discription, sizes not given.

Do armor guys use anything like that?  Not familiar with armor detailing vendors either.  Anyone suggest a source for nuts and bolt heads?

Yes,as a matter of fact they do.   I believe EDUARD is one supplier and there are others whos names escape this feeble memory just now.I would check with your L.H.S. and see if they can help.

They probably can if they have a good model railroad section.Check the armor site on the forum too. they could definitely help,I am sure.  TANKER-builder

Don: Go to walthers go to there page that lists all the suppliers they list click on Tichey Train Group you should find what your looking for there. That is where I get my turn buckles and eye bolts for rigging my WW1 aircraft. hopr this helps you.       ACESES5

Sliced hex styrene stock isn't good enough? (I even have a Micro-Mark jig I bought to make plastic chopping easier and a pricey hexagon punches (0.7 - 0.9 - 1.3 - 1.5 mm) from Steel Models.) Micro-Mark also sells real miniature brass machine screws, bolts, and nuts.

Tichy makes good nuts, bolts and washer sets - as well as rivets - they are HO scale -  here is one place that carries them http://www.internettrains.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=IT&Category_Code=SBSNBWTTG

I've gotten them on ebay as well - search for Tichy HO scale.

They come 200 to the pack for about $3.

Wow, thanks, guys!  Many good leads here.  On the styrene rod- I have done this for larger bolts, but need ones smaller than the hex stock I find in hobby shops. I need heads about fifty mils, and smallest stock hex I can find is closer to 80 or 90 mil.

Thanks, Tom. I think I could use 40 mil okay.  I'll see if my LHS will order some for me.  Also going to order some of the Tichy Trains stuff.
