TRANSPARENT MODELS - How to get good paint detail.

Hi:

I just answered a question about this and it got me to thinking.I just recently finished the TAMIYA , or is it HASEGAWA ? ME 262 in clear . I used foil chrome as a mask on the inside of the plane parts .

This is one reason I make my own foil chrome . That's a lot of foil .But as the article in the latest mag shows. it cant be beat .Sure it's not really easy , but building a contest or super display piece NEVER is .

The results speak for themselves . when you hear " WOW , how'd they do that  " there's your reward. I only found out about this little trick from a neighbor who does "painted " glass . She foils what needs to be clear , or the base color . She then does her etch glass tints and removes the foil when dry . All I can say is "WOW"

You could use 3-M "SCOTCH BRAND" MAGIC MENDING" tape (the type that's frosted ). I find it has one drawback though .It can be too stiff in very small areas. The other way ,(  I tried it and definitely DID NOT like it ) is to use liquid mask on this job .

Silly Putty can be used on large areas even on clear models .I have used it to create " WINDOWS" in the large scale MONOGRAM B-17 model .You know the one with one clear side .I think "freeform" windows look good in this instance .

Well ,there you have my take on it .I find the foil method is the best though .  happy modeling       Tanker-builder
