We here at FSM want to take the opportunity to thank all of you who choose to spend your time here sharing your modeling experience, your personal stories, and the remarkable amount of information and advice that each of you has. And to the remarkable number of new members we have seen join in the last few months, please, make yourselves at home and known. We look forward to helping you and getting to know you.

As many of you probably know, the last few weeks have been a bit choppy due to the presence of a couple of disgruntled former members who have made multiple accounts on the Forum and used them to attack other members, the moderators, FSM, and its parent company, Kalmbach. We have worked hard to track down these multiple accounts and shut them down, with no small amount of help from many of you--you know who you are, and we thank you for your diligence.

For future reference, multiple accounts on the FSM Forum will not be allowed. If we find that a member is using multiple accounts, the first account will be moderated and subsequent accounts will be deleted. A second offense will lead to a one month ban. A third offense is permanent banning.

There is no reason to have multiple accounts on the FSM Forum unless your intent is to deceive and cause mischief. Anyone who currently has multiple accounts can contact me or Aaron via PM to have the other accounts deleted. Those who do will not be subject to the stated strictures. This offer ends at midnight on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013. After that, the rules above go into full effect.

Finally, to everyone who feels the need to defend the Forum when a blatantly inflammatory post is lobbed, the best thing you can do is to let the thread die on its own. Keep modeling. Keep posting your wonderful, funny, engaging, educational posts. Ignore the negative comments. Serious critiques come off as thoughtful, not offensive. You'll know one when you see it.

Thanks everyone for your support. Have fun with your hobbies, and don't be afraid to show us what you're working on!

Tim

I was wondering what was going on. Some post's I had replyed to dissapeared and it looked like I was talking to myself. (Something that actually happens from time to time !)

Right on, Tim.  Disgruntled former members are welcome to depart the pattern.

They wouldn't have so much time for such mischief if they built more models!

Absolutely!! Yes

Tim, I too have noticed the influx of new members, and it really does seem to have breathed a new life into the forums.

I'm glad to see this and hope it works out. It's one reason I suggested including a person's IP address several years ago and also hated to see the join date, location and post count disappear. Yeh, I know you can still see post count but it isn't the same as before.  This has been going on for a long time and seemed to get worse with the last format change. Just saying, not rehashing old stuff.

Well, that’s something.

In fairness, and FSM is a fair place, I happen to stay in touch with quite a few of the former members. I think most of them are not back here stirring things up.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

As a legit new member within the last few weeks, the FSM forum is quite civil compared to the beer website forums I used to frequent.  It made for some interesting reading, but it got old.  Don't get me wrong.  I like a good joker in the forum.

Tim, it would be good to see the join dates, especially if we missed them in the "Introduction" threads.

All the drama appears in the off topic and general modeling forums. It often ends up in the subject modeling forums when there is "spill over" from a spat that began in one of the aforementioned forums.

Most members don't know what caused the spat often because the thread was deleted. All that they know is Timmy & Billy are feuding in the middle of a modeling thread and want them to stop.

HI , TIM :

I just want you to know ,I will stay right here .I know , sometimes I have come close , but , you fellows kept me wise and law abiding .THANK YOU . Now I can do what I do best , build models and share with the new folks and the old moldies , that which I have learned or re-discovered . I don't worry about i.p. stuff , but join dates would be okay .It would let us know how long the old soldier or salt has been tottering down the hallways here .he. he . Well , got a ship to finish .   Thanks Again     Tanker-builder.

Wow...I guess I missed a lot.  I left FSM over a year ago, due to some of the bad behavior.  Never understood the motivation or angst of the bad players...this is a hobby site!!!  Although I hang out primarily on another forum, I have started to dabble again back here on FSM.  I salute the administrators and moderators of this site for doing the due diligence to keep FSM a safe haven and fun haven.

A lot of the previous post's   pretty much  reflects my thought's to  about some of the pettiness of some of the previous post about spelling, grammar and so on.

Keep it simple, come to the forum, build , show and share .

I thought that was not not possible because each pc laptop or mobile device has a unique number that can be tracked.

I am a somewhat recent FSMer, and i got back into modeling about 4 years ago after I graduated college w a degree in English and went on SS Disabilty. Because of my higher education in English, I found i notice mistakes and what not in others writings. However, i fully realize that others may not have the education I do, and I will never call attention to such things.

My sole purpose in being here is modeling; nothing more, nothing less. And if I make some friends along the way (and learn some tricks that I failed to pick up on my own) so much the better.

Some think I m obsessed with modeling, but remember, there's alot worse things one can do with their time.

The issue of proper grammar was brought up because some members posted incoherent ramblings that were difficult to read. Then they seemed miffed that they didn't get responses.

No one expects proper grammar in every sentence. What we wanted was for some folks to find the "enter" key and stop using the "CAPS LOCK" key. We want to help one another, so make it easier for us to decypher what you want to know.

I for one would like to applaud FSM's attempts to ride herd on things. Having been a forum moderator in a past life, I personally know all too well what an utterly thankless and soul-sucking job it can be. Having been bashed and victimized by a few of the "personalities" that formerly inahbited the forums, sometimes repeatedly, I'll not mourn their passing. There's a big difference between free speech and hate speech.

And that's all I've got to say about that, as Forrest would so aptly put it.

Hello,

To all of you who got in touch with me about multiple accounts, thank you. We are in the process of culling other accounts and informing members of their deactivation.

As stated above, the policy is no multiple accounts. If you have any questions concerning this policy, please contact Aaron or me.

Thanks,

Tim
