Type of glue

I'm finishing up a p-47 razorback but I've had problems on previous models gluing on the drop tanks and bombs that have been painted with acrylic. I've tried masking the glue areas and scraping off the paint in these areas but it always seems like testors glue doesn't hold and it "melts" the paint and makes a big mess. Any thoughts on what to glue these on with. I've finally found that for me Elmer's glue all works great for canopies and does not make a mess of the paint
