Looking for an image of the 1970 Airfix 1/24 scale Spitfire 1a
Posted by Tim Kidwell on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 2:46 PM

Hello everyone,

Do one of you happen to have a 1970 Airfix 1/24 scale Spitfire 1a kit in your stash? If you do, would you be willing to snap a pic of the box art and email it to me so I can use it in an upcoming video for FSM? it has to be the original boxing, not one of the reissues. We'll credit the photo to you in the video.

Thanks!

Tim

Hey Tim,  I got all excited and thought I'd be able to help the big bosses, but alas, I have the MPC 1977 Spit 1a in 1/24.  If that would be of any help, let me know and I'd be happy to shot you a pic.  Sorry.

Hi Eagle,

Sorry, it's gotta be the Airfix kit. That plane was reviewer Matthew Walker's first kit, and I'm using the image as an overlay for a video he is in.

Thanks for taking a look!

Tim

Would AIRFIX have a photo?

Also, is this what a first issue box looks like?

(  I don't recall seeing the box in my LHS at the time. )

That's the one.

I'm in contact with Airfix, but I doubt they'll turn up anything. Images they'd have of products from back then would most likely be on slides. They might be able to turn up a catalog with an image in it, but it'll look pretty bad reproduced for the video. The image from Vintage-Airfix cuts off part of the box. I'm using that image as a placeholder for the time being. I'd like to use a clean image I can crop here. But, if I have to run with it, I'll contact them and see if I can get permission to use it.

Hi Macman,

That would work. The question is one of permission, which is probably the route I'm going to have to go.

Thanks for the link. I'll send off and email and see what I can get.

Regards,

Tim

Macman,

Thanks for the link to the Airfix Tribute Forum. I talked to Ratch over there and received permission to use the image.

Thanks to everyone else who was helping out on this!
