There is a book out written by one of the crew-members of the Indianapolis. Darned if I can remember his name or the the title of the book. I met him once at an IPMS Roscoe Turner-sponsored show/contest back when I lived in Indy for a while. Super-nice guy. Not sure if he's still around, as he was pretty advanced in years when I met him. Anyhow, my point is his book might have a lot of the information that you're looking for. Try Googling books about USS Indianapolis, or CA35. The book might have been titled "Still At Sea", but I'm just not sure. Good Luck on your endeavor!

Gotta tell you , A friend sent me a nice and well formatted disc (read only ) on the two ship class . The PORTLAND and the INDIANAPOLIS . I found the book you speak of in my LIBRARY'S research collection .I bought it from them . The book was " TWO SHIP CLASSES , or why only two ships ?The author's name was obscured throught the book .        Tanker-builder
