Probably the old Revell/Otaki 1/144 C5 Galaxy.  I live in hope that the moulds still exist and Revell will re-release it some day.  Always gets a mention in the FSM list of kits that people want to see.  Last time I saw one on evilBay it went for 95 bucks I think......

Could be the old Tamiya Mokei line. That T-Rex on the box side looks like the poor one they carry in their line. The old Aurora styracosaurus was the same kit as their triceratops with a different head.

As far as I know, Revell owns the old Aurora molds and just pops them for Polar Lights/Mobeius.

Again, a bit off subject but I did find the box here, the other kits shown on the sides don't seem to correspond with either the Aurora or Pyro lines: 

It does say in the small print there 'Manufactured in Japan for K-Mart', I did a websearch but can't seem to find anything but recent Japanese dinosaur lines...

Had that one as a kid too... one of those model clubs that sent you a boxed kit in the mail every so many weeks when I was a youngster... the Mummy, Franky, Godzilla, King Kong.... But the Japanese movie monsters were more fun than the Boris Karloff/Bela Lagosi movie monsters

Well, it looks like Revell is going to reissue the Angle Deck Essex carrier put out by Renwall later this year, so anybody who missed that one in their youth can now have another chance. And the original 1/35 Monogram Deuce and a Half truck... plus a few other oldies... Yay Revell!

I have several Lotus, Williams, Mclaren, and Ferrari kits with Gold Leaf, JPS, Marlboro, Rothmans, and other cigarette sponsors. Check out a site called indycals or something, they sell the proper markings for the child-safe kits. Given what these kits cost I am OK with spending an extra $5 for the proper markings.

Check your references, some countries banned cigarette ads earlier than others. Cars ran without cigarette sponsors at certain races going way back.

Thanks Rob, I did a web search and couldn't find a Pyro Styracosaurus plus I do remember the legs being separate parts so I'm guessing it was a rebox of the Aurora kit. Just wish I could find that darn box!

75-76 was towards the end of Aurora. They probably did allow distribution under a retailer's name. If you kit had legs, tail and head that were semi-posable, it was probably Aurora. If it was a fully static kit that required glue, it may have been Pyro (later reboxed by Life Like and Lindberg).

Tankerbuilder: Have you looked around for aftermarket decals? Back the early '90s I built Ken Schrader's Kodiak Chewing Tobacco and Jimmy Spencer's 'Joe Camel' Monte Carlo stock cars along with a couple of others.  If aftermarket decal companies like Slixx  did NASCAR I'd think you could find Indy decals too. Best of all they're way better than the ones you get in the kit in most cases.

A little off the subject, one of the first if not the the first model I ever built was a Styracosaurus back around '75-'76. Wish I still had the model, I do still have the box somewhere. The box has K-Mart on it but no model company name. I've been wondering if this might be the Aurora kit, anyone know if they had a deal to distribute their kits to K-Mart with their name on the box instead of their own? Wish I still had the kit, the original company name was probably imprinted on the inside.

For Christmas in '85 or '86 my parents got me the 1/48 Revell B-1B. The thing was massive. I never bothered starting it because I had nowhere to display a 3 1/2 foot model (I don't think they realized quite how big this thing was). I left for college in '89 and never came back. My parents went through a messy divorce in '92 and I never saw most of my stuff that I left behind again, including a pretty decent model stash. Would've been a pretty interesting project. Looked it up on eBay just for kicks and saw one for $29 ($22 shipping!). Still wouldn't have any place to put it!  :p

I think the days of seeing Budweiser and Marlboro sponsored car and truck model kits is over. Between the amount the companies would want for licenses and the chance that the powers-that-be going after the model company with some violation make it just not worth the effort.

      I still think they could've given you the option of ordering the correct decals seperately ! This would've driven the purist market a little better , don't you think ? I still would like to build these kits ,  Markings or not . That's what airbrushes and masks and lettering sets are for , right ? I know all about the B.S. about targeting kids , and it never washed with me .

        I raised three who do not even smoke or drink socially and I did both  ,still do . I am not getting on a soapbox .I just would like to see these kits " in the WHITE " before I get to old to build them , shoot I just got to 70 . YES , my friends they were mostly ALL  kits put out by long gone AURORA .I personally had all but one .When I went to " NAM " my little bro got them and bye-bye !

Back in the 1970s when I was a kid, I was quite into motorcycles and I remember a couple of Revell motorcycle kits (Midnight Rider and Evil Iron) that I used to see on the store shelf and wanted to build but never got around to buying them.

I remember all those prehistoric scenes kits. They were originally Aurora kits that were bought by Monogram when that company went out of business. Between my brother and myself, we had just about every one. The last one I remember building was the T-Rex in 1987 at Fort Knox, It was a Monogram reissue. The first two kits from this series that I got for my birthday, probably 1970-74, were the Allosaurus and the Saber-toothed Tiger. I believe I got them together because the box art for the Allosaurus showed it fighting the tiger.

I know Revell recently reissued the Allosaurus as "Fang". Squadron used to have it on clearance. It was a cool, but terrible kit. Should be easy to find online. "Fang" was also a make-n-take kit available from Revell several years ago. From my ancient memory, the Giant Do-Do bird was probably one of the best kits from that line.

@tankerbuilder, there are now laws that prevent alcohol and tobacco companies from targeting children. That is why TOY model race cars kits can't be made with cigarette or beer markings.

Personally, I don't know of any kits I wanted but didn't get. There are probably a couple out there, but I just can't recall any at this moment. There have been so many reissues and repops that most kits I craved as a kid showed up later and I bought it. One kit I longed for as a child was the Renwal M50 Ontos. My friend's older brother had one and I loved it. Revell reissued it around 1982-83 when I was a freshman in college. I bought and built it back then. Still have the built kit today.

I have the Sabertooth Cat that I "finished" a very, very long time ago. It's a glue bomb but I bought a "Dome" case to store it in. I keep thinking that some day I'll break open the case (made the mistake of gluing the dome to the base ) and rebuild the cat.

Black Sheep, I remember all those kits... I had a few of those... Loved them! I think they were originally released by Aurora back in the day... Between my friend and I, we had most of the series...

My list of "want to build" is growing faster than my ability to purchase, let alone build.

stikpusher - your comment reminds me of the old 70's Monogram dinosaur snap kits I'd just love to get my hands on again. Nowadays they're costing a pretty penny on ebay. Who remembers the giant T-Rex, Triceratops, Styracosaurus dino kits? Let's not forget the cro Magnon Man, Saber-tooth cat and Cave bear kits. Man, how I wish I could collect the whole series of them.

There are others I never got; Cro Magnon Woman Stryracosaurus, Stegosaurus. Allosaurus (vaguely remember if there was one in the Monogram series). I'm almost sure there were more but can't remember.

All the kits that I have in my stash. I'm getting there but at the rate that I build, I'd have to live till I'm around 300 years old, give or take another 100 or so.

It's funny looking on this thread, I am seeing a recurring theme of old Revell and Renwall kits popping up. Yes some may be rough by today's standards... if somebody made kits of those subjects with today's technology. But look at how popular some of the old kit re issues like the Rommels Rod, Red Baron and Deal's Wheels kits have been. Fun stuff from another time...

You CAN get the car , BUT , Without the " JOHN PLAYER DECALS (a cigarette company don't you know ) This ,Like number three offended someones sensibilities or royalties were to high ! (yupp there is one more ! ) .

A.M.T.s version of " MISS BUDWEISER" (same garbage , it'sa beer company ) They could bring it out in a " WHITE "version like a company recently did with the" CHARGER POLICE CAR" That way no one gets offended .  Except those of us to whom that doesn't amount to a hill of beans .  There they are .
