wash problems

Just recently my black washes have been turning chalky white.Using cheap artist oils and mineral spirits. Anybody have any ideas about what I may be doing wrong?

If you don't get good answers here, try the tools and techniques hiearchy.  There are a couple of forums there (painting and airbrushing, and techniques) that frequently deal with washes.

If you are truly using mineral spirits I have no idea what is wrong.  However, if you are using a generic "paint thinner", there is a new kind of paint thinner being sold that is a milky white, not perfectly transparent, and there are dissolved white particles in it.  Do NOT use that stuff!

Thanks Dan.I have found a epa friendly mineral spirits that is a chalky white, but I ran out,and had to buy a different brand.Talked to a friend of mine, turns out the artist oil black I was using wasn't a true black.I never noticed the chalkiness on my other kits for some reason.
