Flying with boxed models
Posted by Stick78 on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 11:05 AM

Hello all,

I will be in Japan in the next few weeks and was planning to stop by a the Tamiya factory store and another shop.  I would like to buy a kit or two and fly home with it to the USA.  Has anybody done this and gone through airport security?  I am not going to be buying kits with large boxes.

Thanks for any advice!

As long as its only the models, I see no problem. I have done it, but this was many, many years ago, and I was only flying from England to N Ireland. But I see no problem as its only plastic.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Shouldn't be a security problem, maybe a baggage problem (box size vs. luggage allowance),

but I've put kits in my case hold luggage (well wrapped in shirts, etc) without problems.

I'd avoid paint & glue in case some jobs worth quotes 'health & safety' & gets the rubber gloves out! Surprise

you may want to look in to shipping them. depending on luggage space it may be cheaper.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?
