Kit Accessory Weapons
Posted by Sprue-ce Goose on Sunday, September 15, 2013 9:43 AM

After purchasing a 1/24th Monogram Huey and some 1/25 armor , I have been purchasing kits partly for the scale weapons included with the primary kits; I intend to dress up the armor and Huey so they look more "lived in" ....

Tamiya made some very nice weapons with their now long OOP 1/25 military figures and I found most at a swap meet.

The MPC Jeep has a .50 cal, recoil-less rifle, M1 carbine and Thompson but not as crisply molded as the Tamiya product though the Jeep itself will need the hand held weapons in the final build

The Dukes of Hazard Dodge Police car has the M1 carbine, Thompson, sawed off shotgun and an M-16 ( I intend to use with the 1/24 Huey)  ...

The 1/25 Academy and Tamiya armor kits have, of course, MG 34s......

Anyone know of other sources of 1/24 or 1/25 scale small arms?

The Hasegawa kits #20221 #20228 #24501 - #24504 series in 1/24 are Jeeps and Kubelwagons, WWII era.

Italeri is re-issueing the armed Land Rover and Toyota gun truck, both in 1/24

Good to hear of the Italieri re-release of the armed Land Rover and Toyota gun truck.

I intend to obtain the Hasegawa kits, though I've not seen them and occasionally do an internet search.

Apparently, i just missed their issue  when I returned to the hobby in 2010.

From what little I have seen online, the Hasegawa Jeep certainly received good comments from builders compared to the older kits.

The Land Rover has a British? MG included. The Toyota includes their replication of a Browning .50 Cal.

Hasegawa's .50 Cal is the best 1/24 - 1/25 IM plastic that I seen/have.

This is Hasegawa's 1/24 Browning .50 layed over a Tamiya 1/35 Flakvierling sprue set.

Hasegawa 1/24 Browning .50

As you can see, the Tamiya kit can be used as is or converted for science fiction applications in 1/25-1/24 scale. The Tamiya kit includes 4 guns each and is currently both available and affordable.

That Hasegawa kit 1/24 Browning .50 is very nice !

The MPC products are older and not nearly as sharply defined.

The MPC M-16 has soft details but is the only modern assault rifle I know of represented in 1/25th .....and can be used if cleaned up.

Would be nice if a few AKs were included with the Land Rover or Toyota kits.

Unfortunately, these 2 Italeri kits do not include any Kalashnikov rifles.

The 1/24, Tom Daniel, Rommel's Rod #85-4260 is available all over the place. A super fun model kit project but useless for any scale weapons or equipment. The only thing(s) that might interest you are the two seated skeleton figures. They are not very well detailed but pretty close to scale size.

I have that Rommel's Rod kit..and intend to use any leftover weapons with it if at all possible.

Some builders have done a superb job dressing up the Rommel's Rod kits:

I agree about the skeleton figures.

The skeletons included with the re-release of the Monogram Boot Hill Express  85-4999

http://www.showrods.com/gallery_pages/boot_hill8.html

and future? re-release of

the Monogram L'il Coffin

http://www.showrods.com/gallery_pages/lil_coffin4.html#

are much better.

Wow, the Rommel's Rods show rods gallery 'super' and 'super2' are top shelf productions for sure! Yes Beer

The Boot Hill Express skeleton figure is better detailed and also scale size.

The weapons and shovel in the Rommel's Rod kit are closer to 1/35 scale.

It sure would be nice to see Tamiya re-release their 1/25th scale military figures again. In my case not for the weapons but for the figures. They are easily converted into civilian , fire or law enforcement types. I've gleaned any I've seen but not for a long while now.

I, too, would like to see the 1/25 figures re-released.

At this point, mostly for the weapons as the figures are sculpted to represent early war army while the armor kits available are mostly mid to late war.

I may follow your lead in converting those figures I have to match the vehicle kits in my stash.

I've been considering buying a fire truck kit and having figures performing activities around it would be nice.

Hmmmm.............Revell sends a marketing / sales rep to the large model contest / swap meets in my area requesting ideas for kit subjects.

I will add 1/25 figures to go with their auto kits.

Thanks for that lead Big SmileYeson items produced by

Large Scale Armory

....I just now found this old thread on an SAS Jeep conversion set.

http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=SquawkBox&file=index&req=viewtopic&topic_id=133806&page=1

The items look very nice and i will certainly investigate further.

HmmHmmm.......the IHobby Expo is going to be in Chicago area Oct 3 thru 6.

Wasn't intending to visit but if a distributor for these resin items might be there, it may yet be worth the $12 admission fee.

I wonder if FSM attends............

On Sunday I started clean up on the M-16 included in the MPC Sheriff Rosco Police car kit.

Considering the kit was designed after Tamiya created their 1/25 German Army figures and weapons, the molding is very poor.

Tamiya produced much crisper moldings years earlier ; the MPC parts show mold registration is off by a considerable degree.

Neither side of the "weapons" match resulting in a considerable reduction in the size of the lower receiver profile.Super Angry

I may end up scratch building lower receivers and magazines for those 1/25 scale MPC M-16s.......Crying

.....a shame no one offers 80 pct lowers for 'em.......Whistling

The best part of those MPC M-16s is that they are the early style M-16 used in Vietnam and will look good in that Monogram 1/24 Huey.

I will keep checking for a source for those resin weapons sets

Bump..............

Recently picked up the Italieri ( Esci ) Land Rover 50 pct off at a local Hobby Town and am favorably impressed by appearance the MG as included, though I am in no way an expert on British MGs.

I note the radio installation needs work, however..

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234939484-good-old-land-rover-brit-military-style-jeep/

Passed up a 50 pct off on an Italieri 1/24 Jeep due to insufficient funds.

Also purchased the Hasegawa Jeep and must agree that is a really nice MG .....

Need to learn how to make copies of these weapons in resin...........Hmm

Thanks, SPRUEONE .

Would be nice if more of these 1/24 and 1/25 scale weapons were available.

They'd be very handy for Rat Rod builds.Hmm

I really need to find time to try making copies of the weapons now that I have samples.

I recently purchased an old A-Team van..........might be nice to pile a few copies of these weapons into the back............shame no one made the Ruger Mini-14s in 1/24 or 1/25 scale.
