America's Cup Boats

There is still unlimited powerboat racing. I think a big problem is whether a sport has good TV coverage, or is the coverage only on some obscure channel that no one gets!  I can remember when Silver and Gold Cup were always on TV.  Fortunately, I was raised in Detroit so I could always see the Silver Cup in person if I wanted to.  I don't think sponsorship is the problem- some of those boats were sponsored by soft drinks, bread companies, and such, like NASCAR is today.  Unfortunately, the promise of cable TV has not been fulfilled. Instead of a wider variety of sports shown on TV, we see a shrinking variety.  Without TV coverage there will be little demand by modelers.

Ah Yes :

           But you failed to mention one very important piece of American racing  equipment .After the bans on Tobacco Ads and Beer ads. Then the model world saw the dissappearance of the big  unlimited Hydro's like Miss Budweiser .Now why didn't they continue the model " In the white " like Lindberg did with it's Cop Cars ? That way we could've painted it any way we wanted it ? I do believe between Licensing and The bans We've lost a lot of good models .Yet , Franklin Mint and others can still sell the Budweiser wagon and horses .Go figure . I think when It comes to emblems ,we should be given options like cars .Oh , You still are able get the JAGERMEISTER Porsche  .That stuff will blow your head off ! The Decals make the car though . Just like the " Martini " Porsche .

Wasn't always like that...whe n I was a kid there were models of the SS United States, NS Savannah and, of course,RMS Titanic.  There have been tug boats and schooners. There have been oil rigs, road machinery, air racers, including several by Williams Bros. of air frames that never saw military use. There were Revell kits of the DC9, Constellations, 707, 747, an Entex(?) Concorde, I believe there was at least one issue of the DC3 in airline livery. There was at least one PanAM China Clipper and the Spruce Goose. There are any number of commercial airframes available in a variety of liveries. There have been countless street and track cars.

Look at FSM's latest issue, where they give the polling of the most wanted models.  In Aircraft, out of 25 models listed, two are civil.  In the ship categories, there were NO civil subjects.  With poll results like that, I can see why there are so few civil boats and ships.  My hat is off to Revell of Germany for doing at least a few civil vessels!
