You can use the Future but polish up the paint with some 2000 grit or so first. I've used Future as a final gloss coat many times and like it. In my eyes most of the clear gloss available is to shiny and it doesn't look right in scale. The Future gloss looks more correct in my eye. YMMV.

its good for decaling if you only want to coat an area just big enough for the decal as it brushes on superbly. just brush  bit on to the local area and bobs your aunt. i prefer a proper clear coat for finishing.

Actually Future is not a wax at all, but I wouldn't use any of the stuff that's been put out in the past few years though. It's not the same product.

I use Future for my gloss-coat prior to decaling. Seems to work well for that for me.  ymmv.Big Smile

I have occasionally used Future for a gloss coat, but normally prefer a lacquer topcoat.

As Glenn suggested, polish the flat black till its very smooth. You can brush on several coats of Future with a drying time of just a few minutes in between coats. It leaves no brush marks and will look like glass.

Either way, you'll probably want to smooth out the flat black paint with some polishing cloths, or the top coat will orange peel. Though I've seen pictures of folks who use Future that way, I've never used it as a final gloss, I usually like the Testor's Hi-gloss lacquer that goes with their car paints, but it may be too hot for your color coat.

I need a clear, gloss coat over the flat black I'm using on the fenders of my 1930 Ford.

I know Future is a good base for decals, but is it a good final, gloss coat?  Or should I use a clear coat (enamel) for the top coat?
