How do I add maintenance foot prints on aircraft wings.
Posted by LWW1 on Sunday, December 8, 2013 11:51 AM

I am working on an olive drab version of the P-61 n the ETO.  I have seen many B-17s with foot prints all over the wings and would like to replicate this look.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Appreciate the look and more to follow,

If it were me, I'd use a spare figure in that scale to make the print, but instead of paint I'd press  his feet into an ink pad like from a rubber stamp set. Might give you a little more control.

Yeah but the only thing is that most figures don't have a tread pattern on the bottom of their boots,at least the ones in my stash don't

WWII GI shoes had a less pronounced tread pattern than anything issued in the past 25 years. Sort of a diamond pattern on a flat front sole plate and a heel with a u-pattern of holes. If you have ever seen original Corcoran jump boot soles, they are pretty much unchanged since WWII except for the color.

I will scribe a pattern in the soles.  I appreciate and will post the results later today or tomorrow.

I can't help but think that at 1/48 scale, the boot marks would be more like scuffs and smudges rather than something with well-defined and clearly discernable tread marks.

This.

This is an awesome idea!
