chris, the past GB's have ran through out the year in question, starting on Jan 1st. I think the intention is to stick with that.

I have just finished my He 111 this afternoon, so going to finish off the badge tonight.

Well, I hope I don't disappoint. I really need to look further into Paint.net, I am sure theres a lot more can be done with it. But this is what I have got.

SS and myself have agreed to kick this off tomorrow night. I know we are hosting this GB, but I don't see it as ours, more that it belongs to the group in lieu of Sub's absence. I think Sub's original format is as good as it can be, so I don't think we need to tinker with it. But if anyone does have any suggestions, and if Sub is ok with using this thread as a sounding board rather than the build thread, then I am happy to hear any suggestions.

some badges stand out by color and others stand out by shape. tried something fifferent with this one, it is already scaled for badge size and the pictures, which can;t really be seen show a significant event in each month: anzio, korsun pocket,  impha, pacific carrier raids, monte cassini, ld-day, V-1s over london, warsaw uprising, market garden bulge, leyte gulf, B-29 raids on japan, battle of the bulge.

I do like that badge idea wayne, it is different. At first I thought it might be awkward for people to fit in with their other badges. But I suppose they could add it to the sig separately, or if they have their badges like you and stik, they could put it at the top or bottom.

I know its different to the badges Sub has gone with in the past. But what do the group thing about giving a choice of both.

I like both of the badges!

Is there still room for a 3rd one? I'm about 50% done with mine (it'll look similar to the 1943 badge when finished). If not, maybe we could use it for a possible '45 GB...

it fits across the top of mine which i may redo but will look the same. just saw the post in GB. i like the idea of using GENERAL MODELING to discuss this, get suggestions and badges so we don't clutter up the actual GB site with preparation. also like the first post in GB being used for participants and finished so evertbody sees it first thing as soime of us sort newest to oldest.

i can add a 2014 to mine easily.

have to research but hopefully my proto 88mm spaa GRILLE will fit in this one. if not one of my D-day boats will. just thought my 1/35 german midget sub would fit here too.

Wayne, I just thought that as this GB was more of a group idea rather than mine or Clemen's, it should be open for all to have some input, but without actually cluttering up the thread.

I do like the idea of having two posts to open the GB, one with the rules and so on and the other for the roster and coompleted pics. When there is tow of you hosting, its just a case of timing it right.

I don't think it really has to have the 2014 in it. I say leave it as it is, lets give it a day or so, and see what the group thinks. GB don't start for over 2 weeks, so no rush.

just checked and the GRILLE prototype was in 1944. also have an ICM 3 axle staff car. could show model leaving his HQ when the paratroopers started landing. for some reason i see that car and the opening and theme for HOGAN'S HEROS enters my brain.

Ok guys, seeing as we have had no objections, I am going to give everyone a choice of badges. The one I did and waynes. I really like that one wayne, I am very tempted to use that instead of mine. Or maybe rotate them monthly. That's a neat idea.

I like it when there are a few to choose from. One may a suit one builder here more than the other, and vice versa.

I just have to add some weathering -yes, weathering!- to the badge and It's ready Big Smile

In case you think I'm completely crazy now: No, I'm not puoring my new flory washes on the screen and see what happens, I'm jsut adding some textures and filters in photoshop (27 days left to test it). The pics I used for the badge are wallpapers i found on the web, so the pisture quality is "too good". I'll try to make it look like an old color photo (I can't make any promises though)

Bish, I've thought for a while as to the I/R lenses on the UHU. Box art shows a shade of violet/purple that is actually very close to I/R's I've seen but will be tough to paint. On clear parts, generally I use Tamiya "clear" blue, red, yellow etc that goes on well and you can see through it. I believe one of the asian gaming companies make a clear purple, so I'll be experimenting to find the right color. The I/R searchlight is so prominent that it has to be painted right.

It is actually red. We used to use IR lenses over our headlights on the FV 432's we had. I think it just looks purple when its fitted due to the lack of light coming through. But an interesting problem to solve.

It will be worth experimenting on some clear plastic once the searchlight is completed. Would be worth trying the mix SS mentions in different combinations.

our headlights on M60A2s had that dark purple hue too (1976). i would try painting clear blue and over painting with clear red.

On the 113s and 901s that I crewed and/or drove the IR light lenses were black. But that was in the 80s

ours could have been black too but i was thinking there was a hint of color. i do mine as real dark purple just for some color on the vehicle.

I was thinking along the same lines mixing a couple clears but it just has to be right for it to work and be convincible. All the 251's are about the same, so I was checking the parts and that searchlight was very big for the vehicle. We'll get it right, thanks guys.

I promised you a badge and here it is:

I can post a full-size version of it as well (2 times as big)...

What do you think? The colors are a bit too intense IMO, so I reduced the overall saturation a bit:

Which one do you like more?

Cheers, Clemens
