Using Aztek A4709 with red nozzle.
Posted by alanUK on Sunday, January 26, 2014 6:32 AM

Hi. I am currently using an Aztek A4709 airbrush. I an attempt to obtain finer lines I purchased a red fine line nozzle but I can't get the A4709 to spray with this nozzle. The instructions state that there should be a small gap between the nozzle and the airbrush body when the nozzle is fully tightened but when I tighten the nozzle there is no gap and if I slacken off the nozzle to create the smallest of gaps air bubbles occur at the gap and the brush still won't spray. Is the A4709 not designed to use the red fine line nozzle? All the nozzles that came with the airbrush originally work fine.

Hmmm...I'm wondering if you got a bum nozzle.  I just so happened to use my red one a couple of nights ago.  Interestingly enough, there is the tiniest bit of flash right at the nozzle opening.  Fortunately, it doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect on the performance.

Is it the nozzle that came with the set or is this something you recently purchased individually?  If it came with the set, I'd probably contact Testors to let them know.  They might send you a replacement.  They were extremely good at replacing my Aztek airbrush when a component on the inside broke.  If the nozzle is something you purchased individually not too long ago, I'd probably take it back to the store to see if they could swap it out for a new one.

You're right about the gap.  There should be the smallest of gap between the nozzle and the airbrush body.  I know if you overtighten the nozzles, it'll keep them from working properly.  I found that out a few years ago.  I think I was getting air through the brush but no paint.  When I loosened the nozzle just a tiny bit, it worked fine.  I never use that tightener tool they give you in the kit.  I just put the nozzles on snuggly with my fingers.

I hope that helps and that you're able to get the issue resolved quickly.  I enjoy using the red nozzle.  It covers nicely.  That and the black one are my favorites and the ones I use the most.

Best wishes,

Eric

Eric, thanks for feedback. No, the red nozzle didn't come with the airbrush kit so I wondered whether it wasn't intended to be used with my particular model, I've experimented and found that the spring loaded plunger at the end of the nozzle has a tendency to stick if pushed right in, so that might be the problem. I think I'm going to have to take it back to the store and see if I can get a replacement.

Thanks again,

Alan.

Alan,

I think that might be your best bet.  I actually used my red nozzle last night and checked it out pretty carefully.  Yeah I need to clean it up a little bit better but, in spite of that, it still operated flawlessly.  And I even checked to verify the presence of a gap between the nozzle and the airbrush body.  Sure enough, there is/should be one.  It's a VERY tiny gap but, sure enough, there is one there.

I can only imagine that once you get that new red nozzle, it should work just fine for you.  If you can use your other nozzles without any problems, then the red one you have must just be a dud.

There is a forum just for painting and airbrushing.  I'd try the question there.  There are some good airbrush people that hang there. It is down almost at the bottom of the FSM forums.

Alan, I'd be really curious to hear if the new nozzle worked for you.  Let us know how things worked out!
