Future Floor Wax
Posted by Valkyrie on Saturday, February 1, 2014 3:05 PM
I'm just returning to scale modeling after a several year hiatus. Been reading many articles to catch up on techniques. I see many uses of Future floor wax. But, can't seem to find any in local stores or even on the internet (except a case of 6 on Amazon.com.) Is there a secret to finding it?

Hi Valkyrie,

Future is no longer called Future. It is called Pledge FloorCare Multi-Surface Finish. You should be able to find it at your local superdupermegamart.

As a note, FSM will no longer refer to "Future" as "Future." We will call it Pledge FloorCare Multi-Surface upon first mention, and PFM for subsequent mentions.

Thanks,

Tim

I wonder if the manufacturer, S.C. Johnson, has any idea that modelers probably use more of that stuff for modeling than housewives do for mopping floors ?!??

If they ever figure it out, they could sell it in tiny 1 oz. bottles for a price that works out to $200 / gallon!

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Toast Shhh, Cadet Chuck....shhhh!

Don't give 'em any ideas! Though I think we are safe as there are far more housewives using 'PFM' than there are of us, keeping the price down. Now, if we could just get all those housewives to somehow start using Vallejo, MM, Tamiya, etc. and into this hobby!

The model show I attended this past weekend had a few lady modelers who were well aware of Future's model uses. I should also mention that each of them took home Silver medals and one took a couple Gold.

As for the name of "Future", you might still find the older label that mentions "with Future shine" on the store shelves. But you're right, Tim and Chuck, the name has changed once again. The label you want to look for is:

Bill.

On the bench:  Lindberg 1/32 scale 1934 Ford Coupe and a few rescue projects.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

I''ve had my bottle about five or six years and it's only halfway gone. It seems to have taken on a slight yellow or dingy tone. Does anyone know if that's bad? I'm glad people started posting up pics of the new label. Maybe I'll pick up a fresh bottle one of these days.

Dirkpitt, my understanding is that the dingy color won't matter unless you apply it as a final clear cote over white or some other very light color, thus slightly changing that color. If I'm wrong hopefully someone will respond and correct me.

By the way, I like your screen name. I'm a huge Clive Cussler fan.

Ah Chuck you are great! Old-school!

Now speaking of which, young Kidwell, you'd be interested to know that the acronym "PFM" has history.

Pacific Fast Mail

It stood for one of the great old model railroad companies, in this case one of the first that started importing brass locomotives from Japan.

Long gone, like Balboa and a few more I can't remember.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

My Future bottle was purchased in 2000 and is about 60% full. I'm presently 58 years old so at that rate of use, I estimate that about 74 or so I will need to replace it , if I'm still around. :dunno:
