i am going to travel to a neighboring country and i want to buy some acrylics and enamel paints, glues and stuff and bring them back home. some of them like testors enamels and even tamiya acrylics are marked flammable, is it safe if i put them in my luggage?

Safe as long as your luggage doesn't catch fire.Wink

There are very strict rules about what you can carry on.

To be certain, check with your Airline, & check to which two countries you are travelling between.

You may find you won't be allowed to export certain items, and/or import said items to destination country.

Avoid Spray-cans & at all costs, & avoid anything remotely resembling white powder!

Within European countries, basically you can't take anything Liquid and/or flammable (however remote the risk) in any quantities,  except toiletries in 50/100ml bottles, & then not more than will fit in a small transparent bag...

BUT you CAN...

take up to 2 Litres of Spirit + 2 Large Bottles of Perfume, Provided it's bought within Duty Free, which of course, aren't remotely harmful if miss-handled at all!

Just be careful. You can do all the checking, verifying, prearranging that is humanely possible and it will all depend on if they check your stuff and want to make an example of you. All govt's are like this.

I would be conscious of the customs and hazmat regulations and look in that direction. Perhaps ask a customs agent and an airline representative at your destination, when you get there so you'll have more of an idea when heading back home.

Is there any way you can have them shipped seperately? Though, I realize that's not what you are asking.

Definitely, not in your carry on. Regardless of regulations, they may just get confused and take it all away. I've seen large bins full of confiscated items, including fingernail polish, at security checkpoints in lots of locations. Particularly, Canada.

I've seen those confiscated items too.

I've always wondered how much of it goes home with the workers!

actually i am asking a friend in germany to buy lots of stuff like 50 paints (17 ml vallejo), 3 bottles of putty, washes, filters etc etc. so i really dont want them to cause him any trouble or get confiscated.the simple question is: "is it risky? or is it ok?"

Germany to US?

Lots of Bottles of Liquid?

Airline security are going to be curious to say the least...

Trying to argue that Airline/customs regs allow said items when the (very very efficient & 'correct') German Security are reaching for their Glock or worse... rubber gloves won't be comfortable.

It would be a lot simpler if you can find a US Vendor & get it posted to you.

Why don't you just mail it?

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

morrison the delivery companies refuse to accepy paint and stuff like this, jon just 10 bottles of varnish, putty and 3 vallejo acrylic paint sets (3X16) but according to you i should minimize the quantities and eliminate spme items.

Not familiar with the foreign shipping rules but here in the US, most if not all paint is shipped ground only as it is considered as hazardous material.
