I.P.M.S. Model show venues
I wonder :
Have many of you from north TEXAS , ARKANSAS etc ,oh and MEXICO show and competed at the LIVE OAK CIVIC Center in Live Oak Texas ? ( It's a stones throw from the loop 1604 interchange with I-35 . I must sadly inform you of it's passing . I know where the new place is I think .We'll see .Anyway .I entered a few shows there , judged more than my share and had a world of fun dealing with the vendors of all kinds of models .
I am going to miss that place ,which is now just a pile of cleaned space awaiting a new building . AAh the sorrow of it .Reminds me of when I found my favorite hobby shops were no more .Like the one behind the Kensington theater in Buffalo N.Y. ( used to catch the matinee and catch a model too .Gee , 89 cents for a model plane and 1.98 for a AMT model car .With the paints I would spend my whole allowance ) or the one on Cyprus avenue in Miami , Fla .yes , and even the Fransican Hobby store now closed in San Franscisco except in the memory of many who shopped in these places .
I still remember My first REVELL/PACTRA model show at a hobby shop/variety store in Anaheim Ca. I won gold for my 56 Ford Sunliner Convertible and got to take home not only a trophy but a whole lot of models and supplies .A year of each ( they figured one a month I guess .)I did a Corvair the next year From the old AMT curbside kit ( it was the flattop four door .) When I built that I turned it into a four door convertible .Got silver and six kits , a trophy and more of those great " leaves no Brushstrokes " Pactra paints . I think it was in Little Rock , though , that I actually joined I.P.M.S. I've rejoined quite a few times since then ( let my membership lapse kinda thing ) And I will again this year .
As I age I wonder ," Where Have All The Good Times Gone ,Just blowin in the wind " Aha , there's a solution .If you have a LHS give him , her or them as much business as you can .And be certain there are folks out there who care about your modeling needs . Many of these shops were our first point of contact for I.P.M.S. I still remember the first one in Little Rock ARK .At the Holiday Inn convention ctr. off of I - 40 at Roosevelt road .Boy , there were hobby shops vending too , those two days . Those are my fond I.P.M.S and hobby related memories , How about yours ?
